Home Exchange in Sokcho

No verified homes listed in Sokcho yet — the first hosts get priority placement.

Sokcho wakes to the smell of grilling squid and the low horn of fishing boats returning to harbour. Wedged between the East Sea and the jagged peaks of Seoraksan, this port city lives on two rhythms: the salty pull of the coast and the mountain air that sweeps down each evening. It's a place where ajummas sell dried pollack by the pier, hikers refuel on sundae and makguksu after dawn treks, and locals still queue at decades-old dakgangjeong stalls. The homes below open the door to that double life—mornings by the water, evenings in the shadow of granite.

Frequently asked questions

How does home exchange on SwappaHome work?

You list your home, earn 1 credit for every night you host a guest, and spend those credits to stay at any other home in the network — always 1 credit per night. No money changes hands between members. New accounts start with 7 free credits — one full week — so you can book your first trip before you've hosted anyone.

Is it safe to swap homes with strangers?

Every member goes through identity verification before they can list or book. All conversations happen inside the SwappaHome platform — you never have to share your personal email or phone number to coordinate a swap. After each stay, guests and hosts leave mutual reviews — reputation is the foundation of the whole community, and members with low ratings lose access. For extra peace of mind, we recommend confirming house rules in writing before arrival.

Do I need to swap directly with the same person?

No. SwappaHome uses a credit system, not direct 1-to-1 swaps. You can host a family from Berlin and use the credits you earn to stay with a completely different host in Tokyo six months later. It makes travel dates, destinations and group sizes much easier to match.

Can I join if I don't own a home?

Yes — you can earn credits by hosting in a spare room, a long-term rental (if your lease allows guests) or by gifting/receiving credits from other members. You can also buy a starter pack if you want to travel before you host. Listing your primary home is the most common path, but it's not the only one.

When's the best time to visit Sokcho?

Autumn—late September through November—brings crisp air, fiery foliage blanketing Seoraksan, and calm seas perfect for coastal walks. Spring is gentler, with cherry blossoms and fewer crowds on the trails. Summer draws beachgoers to Sokcho Beach and nearby Naksan, though it's the busiest season. Winter turns the mountains into a snow-draped postcard, ideal for hot seafood stews and soaking in the quiet harbour. Each season has its own cadence; locals will tell you autumn is when the city feels most itself.
