Home Exchange in Veliko Tarnovo

No verified homes listed in Veliko Tarnovo yet — the first hosts get priority placement.

The fortress walls catch the first light hours before the valley below wakes. Veliko Tarnovo unfolds in tiers—medieval stone above, cafe-lined cobbles in the middle, the Yantra River carving its loop at the base. This is Bulgaria's old capital, where history isn't preserved behind glass but lived in: artisans work in Ottoman-era workshops, grandmothers sell rose jam at the Samovodska Charshia market, and every balcony seems to overhang a thousand years. To stay here is to wake to church bells and sleep to the sound of the river, to buy bread from the same bakery the neighbours use. The homes below open the door to that rhythm.

Frequently asked questions

How does home exchange on SwappaHome work?

You list your home, earn 1 credit for every night you host a guest, and spend those credits to stay at any other home in the network — always 1 credit per night. No money changes hands between members. New accounts start with 7 free credits — one full week — so you can book your first trip before you've hosted anyone.

Is it safe to swap homes with strangers?

Every member goes through identity verification before they can list or book. All conversations happen inside the SwappaHome platform — you never have to share your personal email or phone number to coordinate a swap. After each stay, guests and hosts leave mutual reviews — reputation is the foundation of the whole community, and members with low ratings lose access. For extra peace of mind, we recommend confirming house rules in writing before arrival.

Do I need to swap directly with the same person?

No. SwappaHome uses a credit system, not direct 1-to-1 swaps. You can host a family from Berlin and use the credits you earn to stay with a completely different host in Tokyo six months later. It makes travel dates, destinations and group sizes much easier to match.

Can I join if I don't own a home?

Yes — you can earn credits by hosting in a spare room, a long-term rental (if your lease allows guests) or by gifting/receiving credits from other members. You can also buy a starter pack if you want to travel before you host. Listing your primary home is the most common path, but it's not the only one.

Which neighbourhoods capture Veliko Tarnovo's character best?

The Varosha quarter—clinging to the hillside south of Tsarevets Fortress—is where the old town feels most intact: stone houses with wooden balconies, narrow lanes that dead-end at viewpoints. Asenov, across the river, is quieter, residential, with a famous monastery. The centre around Gurko Street mixes revival-era architecture with cafes and craft shops. Spring and early autumn bring the best light and walkable temperatures; summer can be warm, winter occasionally snowy but atmospheric.
