Home Exchange in Cologne

No verified homes listed in Cologne yet — the first hosts get priority placement.

Cologne hums to the rhythm of the Rhine and the clatter of brewery tables. This is a city where Gothic spires meet carnival chaos, where Kölsch flows in narrow glasses and strangers toast like old friends. The neighbourhoods—Ehrenfeld's street art and vinyl shops, the Belgian Quarter's cafés, Deutz's river views—each hold their own tempo. Stay in a local home here and you slip into that rhythm: morning runs along the Rheinauhafen, late dinners in Südstadt wine bars, Sunday markets where the whole city seems to gather. The homes below open the door to that life.

Frequently asked questions

How does home exchange on SwappaHome work?

You list your home, earn 1 credit for every night you host a guest, and spend those credits to stay at any other home in the network — always 1 credit per night. No money changes hands between members. New accounts start with 7 free credits — one full week — so you can book your first trip before you've hosted anyone.

Is it safe to swap homes with strangers?

Every member goes through identity verification before they can list or book. All conversations happen inside the SwappaHome platform — you never have to share your personal email or phone number to coordinate a swap. After each stay, guests and hosts leave mutual reviews — reputation is the foundation of the whole community, and members with low ratings lose access. For extra peace of mind, we recommend confirming house rules in writing before arrival.

Do I need to swap directly with the same person?

No. SwappaHome uses a credit system, not direct 1-to-1 swaps. You can host a family from Berlin and use the credits you earn to stay with a completely different host in Tokyo six months later. It makes travel dates, destinations and group sizes much easier to match.

Can I join if I don't own a home?

Yes — you can earn credits by hosting in a spare room, a long-term rental (if your lease allows guests) or by gifting/receiving credits from other members. You can also buy a starter pack if you want to travel before you host. Listing your primary home is the most common path, but it's not the only one.

Which neighbourhoods in Cologne feel most local?

Ehrenfeld pulses with creative energy—galleries, record shops, Turkish bakeries on every corner. The Belgian Quarter (Belgisches Viertel) feels residential and cafe-lined, perfect for slow mornings. Südstadt draws a younger crowd to its wine bars and bistros. Deutz, across the river, offers quieter streets and postcard views back toward the Dom. Each has its own flavour, but all share that Rhineland ease—less hustle than Berlin, more warmth than Munich.
