Home Exchange in Munich

No verified homes listed in Munich yet — the first hosts get priority placement.

Munich announces itself in the clatter of beer steins in a Biergarten and the smell of pretzels browning in corner bakeries before dawn. It's a city that wears formality lightly — business suits disappear into lederhosen come September, and the Isar River becomes a living room where locals wade barefoot after work. To stay here is to slip into a rhythm governed by church bells, market days, and the Alpine light that pours through tall windows in Schwabing and Haidhausen. The homes below open the door to that rhythm.

Frequently asked questions

How does home exchange on SwappaHome work?

You list your home, earn 1 credit for every night you host a guest, and spend those credits to stay at any other home in the network — always 1 credit per night. No money changes hands between members. New accounts start with 7 free credits — one full week — so you can book your first trip before you've hosted anyone.

Is it safe to swap homes with strangers?

Every member goes through identity verification before they can list or book. All conversations happen inside the SwappaHome platform — you never have to share your personal email or phone number to coordinate a swap. After each stay, guests and hosts leave mutual reviews — reputation is the foundation of the whole community, and members with low ratings lose access. For extra peace of mind, we recommend confirming house rules in writing before arrival.

Do I need to swap directly with the same person?

No. SwappaHome uses a credit system, not direct 1-to-1 swaps. You can host a family from Berlin and use the credits you earn to stay with a completely different host in Tokyo six months later. It makes travel dates, destinations and group sizes much easier to match.

Can I join if I don't own a home?

Yes — you can earn credits by hosting in a spare room, a long-term rental (if your lease allows guests) or by gifting/receiving credits from other members. You can also buy a starter pack if you want to travel before you host. Listing your primary home is the most common path, but it's not the only one.

Which neighbourhoods in Munich feel most local?

Schwabing draws artists and students with its leafy streets and corner cafés, while Haidhausen hums with a village-like quiet despite sitting minutes from Marienplatz. Glockenbach is where young families and creatives gather around the weekend markets. Across the Isar, Giesing keeps its working-class roots visible in its beer halls and bakeries. Each neighbourhood orbits its own square and S-Bahn stop, making it easy to live like a Münchner without needing a car.
