Home Exchange in Rhodes

No verified homes listed in Rhodes yet — the first hosts get priority placement.

Rhodes announces itself in layers: the scent of wild thyme on the hillsides, the clatter of backgammon tiles in a kafeneion courtyard, the sudden cool of a medieval alley after the blaze of the harbour. This is an island where Crusader fortresses meet Ottoman fountains, where fishing villages doze through August and come alive for the grape harvest. Staying in a local home here means waking to the rhythm of the bakery van's horn, learning which beach the islanders actually swim at, tasting kolokythokeftedes made from a neighbour's courgettes. The homes below open the door to that older, quieter Rhodes—the one that survives just behind the postcard.

Frequently asked questions

How does home exchange on SwappaHome work?

You list your home, earn 1 credit for every night you host a guest, and spend those credits to stay at any other home in the network — always 1 credit per night. No money changes hands between members. New accounts start with 7 free credits — one full week — so you can book your first trip before you've hosted anyone.

Is it safe to swap homes with strangers?

Every member goes through identity verification before they can list or book. All conversations happen inside the SwappaHome platform — you never have to share your personal email or phone number to coordinate a swap. After each stay, guests and hosts leave mutual reviews — reputation is the foundation of the whole community, and members with low ratings lose access. For extra peace of mind, we recommend confirming house rules in writing before arrival.

Do I need to swap directly with the same person?

No. SwappaHome uses a credit system, not direct 1-to-1 swaps. You can host a family from Berlin and use the credits you earn to stay with a completely different host in Tokyo six months later. It makes travel dates, destinations and group sizes much easier to match.

Can I join if I don't own a home?

Yes — you can earn credits by hosting in a spare room, a long-term rental (if your lease allows guests) or by gifting/receiving credits from other members. You can also buy a starter pack if you want to travel before you host. Listing your primary home is the most common path, but it's not the only one.

Which part of Rhodes feels most like island life?

The west coast and interior villages hold the everyday pulse. Lindos and the medieval town draw the crowds, but places like Embonas in the wine country or Kritinia on the quieter shore keep the slower cadence—morning markets, long lunches under plane trees, evenings that stretch without urgency. Spring and autumn let you inhabit that rhythm without the midsummer heat, when even the locals retreat indoors between two and five.
