Home Exchange in Thessaloniki
No verified homes listed in Thessaloniki yet — the first hosts get priority placement.
The smell of bougatsa from a corner bakery, still warm at 11 a.m. Thessaloniki keeps a slower clock than Athens—breakfast stretches into lunch, the waterfront promenade fills at dusk, and dinner rarely starts before ten. This is a city shaped by layers: Byzantine walls, Ottoman hammams, art nouveau façades painted in faded ochre. To stay here is to slip into that rhythm—morning coffee at a kafeneio in Ano Poli, afternoon wandering through Ladadika's cobbled lanes, evenings watching the sun drop into the Thermaic Gulf. The homes below open the door to that life.

Frequently asked questions
How does home exchange on SwappaHome work?
You list your home, earn 1 credit for every night you host a guest, and spend those credits to stay at any other home in the network — always 1 credit per night. No money changes hands between members. New accounts start with 7 free credits — one full week — so you can book your first trip before you've hosted anyone.
Is it safe to swap homes with strangers?
Every member goes through identity verification before they can list or book. All conversations happen inside the SwappaHome platform — you never have to share your personal email or phone number to coordinate a swap. After each stay, guests and hosts leave mutual reviews — reputation is the foundation of the whole community, and members with low ratings lose access. For extra peace of mind, we recommend confirming house rules in writing before arrival.
Do I need to swap directly with the same person?
No. SwappaHome uses a credit system, not direct 1-to-1 swaps. You can host a family from Berlin and use the credits you earn to stay with a completely different host in Tokyo six months later. It makes travel dates, destinations and group sizes much easier to match.
Can I join if I don't own a home?
Yes — you can earn credits by hosting in a spare room, a long-term rental (if your lease allows guests) or by gifting/receiving credits from other members. You can also buy a starter pack if you want to travel before you host. Listing your primary home is the most common path, but it's not the only one.
When's the best time to visit Thessaloniki?
Spring and early autumn offer the gentlest weather—warm enough for waterfront strolls, cool enough to explore the Upper Town's steep streets without wilting. Summers blaze hot, but locals escape to nearby Halkidiki beaches. Winter brings a quieter, more introspective city: fog rolling off the gulf, chestnuts roasting in Aristotelous Square, and the chance to experience Thessaloniki as residents do, without the cruise-ship crowds.
