Home Exchange in Hobart
No verified homes listed in Hobart yet — the first hosts get priority placement.
Hobart clings to the Derwent estuary with a sailor's grip, where sandstone warehouses meet the cold Southern Ocean wind. The air smells of kelp and brewing hops. Mount Wellington looms behind Georgian terraces, its summit often dusted with snow even when the waterfront basks in pale sunlight. Salamanca Place hums on Saturdays with stalls selling apple cider and hand-thrown pottery. Locals slip away to Battery Point's crooked lanes or the Museum of Old and New Art, carved into a peninsula cliff. This is Australia's second-oldest city, but it feels like an island unto itself—quiet, bracing, defiantly unhurried.

Frequently asked questions
How does home exchange on SwappaHome work?
You list your home, earn 1 credit for every night you host a guest, and spend those credits to stay at any other home in the network — always 1 credit per night. No money changes hands between members. New accounts start with 10 free credits, so you can book your first trip before you've hosted anyone.
Is it safe to swap homes with strangers?
Every member goes through identity verification before they can list or book. All messages run through our encrypted chat. After each stay, guests and hosts leave mutual reviews — reputation is the foundation of the whole community, and members with low ratings lose access. For extra peace of mind, we recommend confirming house rules in writing before arrival.
Do I need to swap directly with the same person?
No. SwappaHome uses a credit system, not direct 1-to-1 swaps. You can host a family from Berlin and use the credits you earn to stay with a completely different host in Tokyo six months later. It makes travel dates, destinations and group sizes much easier to match.
Can I join if I don't own a home?
Yes — you can earn credits by hosting in a spare room, a long-term rental (if your lease allows guests) or by gifting/receiving credits from other members. You can also buy a starter pack if you want to travel before you host. Listing your primary home is the most common path, but it's not the only one.
What's the weather like in Hobart, and when should I visit?
Hobart's climate is temperate but famously unpredictable—locals joke about four seasons in one day. Summers (December to February) are mild and long-lit, perfect for harbour swims and the taste festival. Autumn brings golden light and calm seas. Winters are crisp, with Mount Wellington capped in snow and cosy pub fires in Battery Point. Spring can be blustery but beautiful. Pack layers year-round, and don't be surprised if a sunny morning turns to sleet by lunch. The changeable weather is part of the city's moody charm.
