Home Exchange in Montreal
No verified homes listed in Montreal yet — the first hosts get priority placement.
Montreal hums with two languages, four seasons that actually feel distinct, and a European sensibility planted firmly in North America. Cobblestone streets in Old Montreal give way to the Plateau's painted staircases and bagel shops that never close. Summer means festival after festival—jazz spilling from outdoor stages, comedy, film, circus arts—while winter turns the city inward to cozy bistros serving tourtière and craft beer. The mountain at its heart, Mont Royal, offers a green lung and skyline views year-round. You'll hear French in the bakeries, English in the bars, and a bilingual ease that makes the whole place feel like a gentle cultural negotiation.

Frequently asked questions
How does home exchange on SwappaHome work?
You list your home, earn 1 credit for every night you host a guest, and spend those credits to stay at any other home in the network — always 1 credit per night. No money changes hands between members. New accounts start with 10 free credits, so you can book your first trip before you've hosted anyone.
Is it safe to swap homes with strangers?
Every member goes through identity verification before they can list or book. All messages run through our encrypted chat. After each stay, guests and hosts leave mutual reviews — reputation is the foundation of the whole community, and members with low ratings lose access. For extra peace of mind, we recommend confirming house rules in writing before arrival.
Do I need to swap directly with the same person?
No. SwappaHome uses a credit system, not direct 1-to-1 swaps. You can host a family from Berlin and use the credits you earn to stay with a completely different host in Tokyo six months later. It makes travel dates, destinations and group sizes much easier to match.
Can I join if I don't own a home?
Yes — you can earn credits by hosting in a spare room, a long-term rental (if your lease allows guests) or by gifting/receiving credits from other members. You can also buy a starter pack if you want to travel before you host. Listing your primary home is the most common path, but it's not the only one.
Which neighbourhoods capture Montreal's real character?
The Plateau and Mile End feel most lived-in—tree-lined streets, corner dépanneurs, murals on every block, and a café culture that doesn't rush you out. Old Montreal charms with its history and riverfront, but locals gravitate to the Latin Quarter for theatre and bookshops, or Verdun for its waterfront bike paths and unpretentious vibe. Rosemont–La Petite-Patrie offers Italian markets and family-run trattorias. Each neighbourhood has its own metro stop and distinct personality, making it easy to hopscotch across the city's many moods.
