Home Exchange in Vancouver

No verified homes listed in Vancouver yet — the first hosts get priority placement.

Vancouver sits where the mountains meet the Pacific, a city that smells of cedar and salt water. Neighbourhoods like Kitsilano and Commercial Drive each hold their own rhythm — yoga studios and craft breweries in one, Portuguese bakeries and vintage shops in the other. The North Shore mountains loom close enough to ski in the morning and sail by afternoon. Rain-slicked streets in winter give way to long summer evenings when the seawall fills with cyclists and the patios never empty. It's a place where you can disappear into old-growth forest and still make dinner reservations downtown.

Frequently asked questions

How does home exchange on SwappaHome work?

You list your home, earn 1 credit for every night you host a guest, and spend those credits to stay at any other home in the network — always 1 credit per night. No money changes hands between members. New accounts start with 10 free credits, so you can book your first trip before you've hosted anyone.

Is it safe to swap homes with strangers?

Every member goes through identity verification before they can list or book. All messages run through our encrypted chat. After each stay, guests and hosts leave mutual reviews — reputation is the foundation of the whole community, and members with low ratings lose access. For extra peace of mind, we recommend confirming house rules in writing before arrival.

Do I need to swap directly with the same person?

No. SwappaHome uses a credit system, not direct 1-to-1 swaps. You can host a family from Berlin and use the credits you earn to stay with a completely different host in Tokyo six months later. It makes travel dates, destinations and group sizes much easier to match.

Can I join if I don't own a home?

Yes — you can earn credits by hosting in a spare room, a long-term rental (if your lease allows guests) or by gifting/receiving credits from other members. You can also buy a starter pack if you want to travel before you host. Listing your primary home is the most common path, but it's not the only one.

When's the best time to experience Vancouver?

July and August bring the famous dry warmth and outdoor festival season, but locals treasure the shoulder months. Late spring sees cherry blossoms blanket entire streets, while September and early October offer crisp air, fewer crowds, and the best light for photographing the mountains. Winter is mild by Canadian standards — rain more than snow in the city itself — though the nearby peaks turn into ski country. Pack layers year-round; microclimates mean Kitsilano might be sunny while the North Shore sits under cloud.
