Home Exchange in Lyon

No verified homes listed in Lyon yet — the first hosts get priority placement.

Lyon sits at the confluence of two rivers, the Rhône and the Saône, its old town a tangle of traboules—covered passageways that once shuttled silk merchants through Renaissance courtyards. The city moves to its own rhythm: market mornings in Croix-Rousse, long lunches in bouchons serving quenelles and andouillette, evenings when the basilica glows white above the rooftops. Presqu'île hums with cafés and vintage shops, while Vieux Lyon's cobblestones lead to hidden squares where accordion music drifts from open windows. It's a place that rewards wandering, especially when the light turns golden over the Saône.

Frequently asked questions

How does home exchange on SwappaHome work?

You list your home, earn 1 credit for every night you host a guest, and spend those credits to stay at any other home in the network — always 1 credit per night. No money changes hands between members. New accounts start with 10 free credits, so you can book your first trip before you've hosted anyone.

Is it safe to swap homes with strangers?

Every member goes through identity verification before they can list or book. All messages run through our encrypted chat. After each stay, guests and hosts leave mutual reviews — reputation is the foundation of the whole community, and members with low ratings lose access. For extra peace of mind, we recommend confirming house rules in writing before arrival.

Do I need to swap directly with the same person?

No. SwappaHome uses a credit system, not direct 1-to-1 swaps. You can host a family from Berlin and use the credits you earn to stay with a completely different host in Tokyo six months later. It makes travel dates, destinations and group sizes much easier to match.

Can I join if I don't own a home?

Yes — you can earn credits by hosting in a spare room, a long-term rental (if your lease allows guests) or by gifting/receiving credits from other members. You can also buy a starter pack if you want to travel before you host. Listing your primary home is the most common path, but it's not the only one.

Which neighbourhoods in Lyon feel most lived-in?

Croix-Rousse, perched on a hill north of the city centre, still carries the spirit of its silk-weaving past—steep streets, neighbourhood markets, and a village-like quiet. Guillotière, across the Rhône, is grittier and more multicultural, with North African grocers and late-night kebab spots. Vieux Lyon is beautiful but touristy; for everyday life, head to Pentes or the residential pockets of Part-Dieu. Locals shop at Les Halles de Lyon Paul Bocuse, and many live within cycling distance of the rivers.
