Home Exchange in Marseille
No verified homes listed in Marseille yet — the first hosts get priority placement.
Marseille sprawls along the Mediterranean with a salt-crusted swagger that feels more North African port than polished Riviera. The Vieux-Port still smells of morning bouillabaisse and diesel, while the Panier's narrow lanes hide tiled doorways and street-art shrines. Venture beyond the postcard calanques and you'll find neighbourhoods where pétanque clicks echo off Haussmann façades, where the accent rolls thick and the apéro starts early. This is a city that doesn't perform for tourists—it simply lives, loudly and unapologetically, under that relentless southern sun.

Frequently asked questions
How does home exchange on SwappaHome work?
You list your home, earn 1 credit for every night you host a guest, and spend those credits to stay at any other home in the network — always 1 credit per night. No money changes hands between members. New accounts start with 10 free credits, so you can book your first trip before you've hosted anyone.
Is it safe to swap homes with strangers?
Every member goes through identity verification before they can list or book. All messages run through our encrypted chat. After each stay, guests and hosts leave mutual reviews — reputation is the foundation of the whole community, and members with low ratings lose access. For extra peace of mind, we recommend confirming house rules in writing before arrival.
Do I need to swap directly with the same person?
No. SwappaHome uses a credit system, not direct 1-to-1 swaps. You can host a family from Berlin and use the credits you earn to stay with a completely different host in Tokyo six months later. It makes travel dates, destinations and group sizes much easier to match.
Can I join if I don't own a home?
Yes — you can earn credits by hosting in a spare room, a long-term rental (if your lease allows guests) or by gifting/receiving credits from other members. You can also buy a starter pack if you want to travel before you host. Listing your primary home is the most common path, but it's not the only one.
Which neighbourhoods capture Marseille's real character?
The Panier is the historic soul—washing lines strung between pastel shutters, tiny galleries, and North African bakeries. Le Cours Julien pulses with street art and vinyl shops, beloved by students and artists. For seaside calm, the calanques of Sormiou or Morgiou feel like secret coves. Avoid August if you want the city to yourself; late spring and early autumn bring warmth without the crush, and the light turns golden over the old port at dusk.
