Home Exchange in Strasbourg

No verified homes listed in Strasbourg yet — the first hosts get priority placement.

Strasbourg sits at the crossroads of France and Germany, a city where half-timbered houses lean over canals and the scent of choucroute drifts from winstubs at dusk. The Grande Île—a UNESCO island of cobbled lanes and the soaring pink sandstone cathedral—feels medieval one moment, Belle Époque the next. Across the water, the European Quarter hums with a different energy, all glass and policy-making. In December, the Christmas markets transform every square into a forest of lights and vin chaud. Spring brings storks back to their rooftop nests, and summer means long evenings along the Ill, watching boats glide past Petite France.

Frequently asked questions

How does home exchange on SwappaHome work?

You list your home, earn 1 credit for every night you host a guest, and spend those credits to stay at any other home in the network — always 1 credit per night. No money changes hands between members. New accounts start with 10 free credits, so you can book your first trip before you've hosted anyone.

Is it safe to swap homes with strangers?

Every member goes through identity verification before they can list or book. All messages run through our encrypted chat. After each stay, guests and hosts leave mutual reviews — reputation is the foundation of the whole community, and members with low ratings lose access. For extra peace of mind, we recommend confirming house rules in writing before arrival.

Do I need to swap directly with the same person?

No. SwappaHome uses a credit system, not direct 1-to-1 swaps. You can host a family from Berlin and use the credits you earn to stay with a completely different host in Tokyo six months later. It makes travel dates, destinations and group sizes much easier to match.

Can I join if I don't own a home?

Yes — you can earn credits by hosting in a spare room, a long-term rental (if your lease allows guests) or by gifting/receiving credits from other members. You can also buy a starter pack if you want to travel before you host. Listing your primary home is the most common path, but it's not the only one.

Which neighbourhoods capture Strasbourg's character best?

Petite France is the postcard—canals, timber frames, tourists—but wander into Krutenau for student bars and a scruffier charm. The Neustadt, built during German rule, offers wide boulevards and Art Nouveau elegance. For a lived-in feel, the Neudorf and Meinau quarters mix residential calm with corner bakeries and tram lines that connect you to the centre in minutes. Each has its own rhythm, but all share that bilingual ease and a love of good bread.
