Home Exchange in Bologna

No verified homes listed in Bologna yet — the first hosts get priority placement.

Bologna moves to the rhythm of porticoed footsteps and the clatter of pasta machines. This is a city that feeds you — literally and culturally — with tortellini folded by hand in trattorias older than most nations, and university students spilling out of medieval lecture halls into piazzas lined with terracotta. The archways stretch for miles, sheltering you from summer heat and winter drizzle alike. Mornings smell of espresso and mortadella. Evenings taste of Lambrusco and ragu that's simmered since dawn. It's less polished than Florence, less frantic than Milan, and all the better for it.

Frequently asked questions

How does home exchange on SwappaHome work?

You list your home, earn 1 credit for every night you host a guest, and spend those credits to stay at any other home in the network — always 1 credit per night. No money changes hands between members. New accounts start with 10 free credits, so you can book your first trip before you've hosted anyone.

Is it safe to swap homes with strangers?

Every member goes through identity verification before they can list or book. All messages run through our encrypted chat. After each stay, guests and hosts leave mutual reviews — reputation is the foundation of the whole community, and members with low ratings lose access. For extra peace of mind, we recommend confirming house rules in writing before arrival.

Do I need to swap directly with the same person?

No. SwappaHome uses a credit system, not direct 1-to-1 swaps. You can host a family from Berlin and use the credits you earn to stay with a completely different host in Tokyo six months later. It makes travel dates, destinations and group sizes much easier to match.

Can I join if I don't own a home?

Yes — you can earn credits by hosting in a spare room, a long-term rental (if your lease allows guests) or by gifting/receiving credits from other members. You can also buy a starter pack if you want to travel before you host. Listing your primary home is the most common path, but it's not the only one.

Which neighbourhoods in Bologna feel most authentic?

Santo Stefano and the Quadrilatero market district hum with everyday Bolognese life — locals shopping for parmigiano wheels and wild boar salumi, elderly women chatting under medieval towers. The university quarter around Via Zamboni pulses with students and indie bookshops. For a quieter, residential feel, wander San Donato or the streets west of Via Saragozza, where the porticoes begin their climb toward the Sanctuary of San Luca. Each neighbourhood has its own osteria where regulars argue about the correct width of tagliatelle.
