Home Exchange in Mdina

No verified homes listed in Mdina yet — the first hosts get priority placement.

Mdina sits on a limestone ridge in the heart of Malta, its honey-coloured walls glowing amber at sunset. Known as the Silent City, its narrow streets echo with centuries of history—Norman palaces, baroque chapels, hidden courtyards where bougainvillea spills over iron balconies. The air smells of jasmine and slow-cooked rabbit stew from family-run trattorias. Beyond the bastions, the island unfolds in patchwork fields and distant glimpses of the Mediterranean. Staying here means waking to church bells, wandering car-free alleys, and feeling the weight of time slow down.

Frequently asked questions

How does home exchange on SwappaHome work?

You list your home, earn 1 credit for every night you host a guest, and spend those credits to stay at any other home in the network — always 1 credit per night. No money changes hands between members. New accounts start with 10 free credits, so you can book your first trip before you've hosted anyone.

Is it safe to swap homes with strangers?

Every member goes through identity verification before they can list or book. All messages run through our encrypted chat. After each stay, guests and hosts leave mutual reviews — reputation is the foundation of the whole community, and members with low ratings lose access. For extra peace of mind, we recommend confirming house rules in writing before arrival.

Do I need to swap directly with the same person?

No. SwappaHome uses a credit system, not direct 1-to-1 swaps. You can host a family from Berlin and use the credits you earn to stay with a completely different host in Tokyo six months later. It makes travel dates, destinations and group sizes much easier to match.

Can I join if I don't own a home?

Yes — you can earn credits by hosting in a spare room, a long-term rental (if your lease allows guests) or by gifting/receiving credits from other members. You can also buy a starter pack if you want to travel before you host. Listing your primary home is the most common path, but it's not the only one.

What's the best way to experience Mdina's atmosphere?

Arrive early morning or late afternoon when day-trippers thin out and the city returns to its hushed, medieval rhythm. Wander without a map—the walled perimeter is small enough that you won't get lost. Linger in Bastion Square at sunset when the light turns the stone walls gold and the view stretches across half the island. For a taste of local life, duck into a pasticceria for a kannoli or ftira, and listen for the clatter of shutters opening at dawn.
