Home Exchange in Essaouira
No verified homes listed in Essaouira yet — the first hosts get priority placement.
Essaouira wraps you in salt air and the call of gulls before you've even left the medina. This Atlantic port town moves to its own rhythm — slower than Marrakech, rougher than the Riviera — where blue fishing boats bob against whitewashed ramparts and the wind never quite stops. The souks smell of argan oil and thuya wood. By late afternoon, the light turns honey-gold over the harbour, and the beach stretches north in a wide, wild arc. Cats nap in doorways painted the colour of faded denim. It's a place that rewards wandering without a map.

Frequently asked questions
How does home exchange on SwappaHome work?
You list your home, earn 1 credit for every night you host a guest, and spend those credits to stay at any other home in the network — always 1 credit per night. No money changes hands between members. New accounts start with 10 free credits, so you can book your first trip before you've hosted anyone.
Is it safe to swap homes with strangers?
Every member goes through identity verification before they can list or book. All messages run through our encrypted chat. After each stay, guests and hosts leave mutual reviews — reputation is the foundation of the whole community, and members with low ratings lose access. For extra peace of mind, we recommend confirming house rules in writing before arrival.
Do I need to swap directly with the same person?
No. SwappaHome uses a credit system, not direct 1-to-1 swaps. You can host a family from Berlin and use the credits you earn to stay with a completely different host in Tokyo six months later. It makes travel dates, destinations and group sizes much easier to match.
Can I join if I don't own a home?
Yes — you can earn credits by hosting in a spare room, a long-term rental (if your lease allows guests) or by gifting/receiving credits from other members. You can also buy a starter pack if you want to travel before you host. Listing your primary home is the most common path, but it's not the only one.
When's the best time to visit Essaouira?
Spring and autumn bring the gentlest weather — warm days, cool evenings, and the famous trade winds at their most forgiving. Summer can be breezy and popular with kite-surfers, while winter stays mild but quieter, with occasional rain and emptier beaches. The Gnaoua World Music Festival in June fills the medina with sound, but also crowds. If you want the town to yourself, aim for late September or early May, when the light is soft and the fish tagines taste like they were made just for you.
