Home Exchange in Bergen
No verified homes listed in Bergen yet — the first hosts get priority placement.
Bergen wears its rain like a badge of honour. Tucked between seven mountains and the North Sea, this wooden harbour city smells of salt and coffee, its cobbled lanes slick with mist most mornings. Bryggen's leaning gabled warehouses—once the heart of the Hanseatic trade—now shelter galleries and cafés where locals linger over skillingsboller. Beyond the wharf, funicular tracks climb Fløyen through pine forests, and ferries slip toward the fjords. Spring brings endless light; autumn wraps the peaks in fog. It's a city that never quite dries off, and somehow that's the whole point.

Frequently asked questions
How does home exchange on SwappaHome work?
You list your home, earn 1 credit for every night you host a guest, and spend those credits to stay at any other home in the network — always 1 credit per night. No money changes hands between members. New accounts start with 10 free credits, so you can book your first trip before you've hosted anyone.
Is it safe to swap homes with strangers?
Every member goes through identity verification before they can list or book. All messages run through our encrypted chat. After each stay, guests and hosts leave mutual reviews — reputation is the foundation of the whole community, and members with low ratings lose access. For extra peace of mind, we recommend confirming house rules in writing before arrival.
Do I need to swap directly with the same person?
No. SwappaHome uses a credit system, not direct 1-to-1 swaps. You can host a family from Berlin and use the credits you earn to stay with a completely different host in Tokyo six months later. It makes travel dates, destinations and group sizes much easier to match.
Can I join if I don't own a home?
Yes — you can earn credits by hosting in a spare room, a long-term rental (if your lease allows guests) or by gifting/receiving credits from other members. You can also buy a starter pack if you want to travel before you host. Listing your primary home is the most common path, but it's not the only one.
What's the best way to experience Bergen's neighbourhoods beyond Bryggen?
Wander up into Nordnes, the narrow peninsula where wooden houses cluster near the aquarium and locals swim year-round. Sandviken, just north of the harbour, feels quieter—old boathouses, garden allotments, the occasional cat on a windowsill. For students and vinyl shops, head to Møhlenpris. Most of Bergen unfolds on foot or by light rail; the city's small enough that you'll stumble into a bakery or a hidden staircase without trying. Pack a light rain jacket and let the weather decide your route.
