Home Exchange in Lofoten

No verified homes listed in Lofoten yet — the first hosts get priority placement.

Lofoten rises from the Norwegian Sea like a jagged spine of granite and myth, where fishing villages cling to narrow shores beneath peaks that glow violet at midnight in summer. The air smells of salt and stockfish drying on wooden racks, a scent older than the red rorbuer cabins that dot the harbours. Here, light does strange things—it lingers for months, then vanishes almost entirely—and the landscape shifts from emerald fjords to white-sand beaches that feel impossibly Arctic. Between the mountains and the water, life moves to the rhythm of tides and seasons, unhurried and profoundly beautiful.

Frequently asked questions

How does home exchange on SwappaHome work?

You list your home, earn 1 credit for every night you host a guest, and spend those credits to stay at any other home in the network — always 1 credit per night. No money changes hands between members. New accounts start with 10 free credits, so you can book your first trip before you've hosted anyone.

Is it safe to swap homes with strangers?

Every member goes through identity verification before they can list or book. All messages run through our encrypted chat. After each stay, guests and hosts leave mutual reviews — reputation is the foundation of the whole community, and members with low ratings lose access. For extra peace of mind, we recommend confirming house rules in writing before arrival.

Do I need to swap directly with the same person?

No. SwappaHome uses a credit system, not direct 1-to-1 swaps. You can host a family from Berlin and use the credits you earn to stay with a completely different host in Tokyo six months later. It makes travel dates, destinations and group sizes much easier to match.

Can I join if I don't own a home?

Yes — you can earn credits by hosting in a spare room, a long-term rental (if your lease allows guests) or by gifting/receiving credits from other members. You can also buy a starter pack if you want to travel before you host. Listing your primary home is the most common path, but it's not the only one.

When's the best time to experience Lofoten's dramatic light?

Late May through July brings the midnight sun, when golden light spills across peaks and water at all hours, perfect for hiking and photography. September through March offers a chance at the northern lights, with long blue twilights and snow-draped villages. Winter transforms the islands into a stark, luminous world, though days are short. Summer means endless daylight and accessible trails, but also more visitors. Spring and autumn offer quieter moments, moody skies, and that in-between light photographers dream about.
