Home Exchange in Trondheim

No verified homes listed in Trondheim yet — the first hosts get priority placement.

Trondheim sits at the mouth of the Nidelva, where wooden wharves lean over fast-moving water and the Gothic spire of Nidaros Cathedral catches the low northern light. This is Norway's old royal seat, a city of bicycles and bridges, where students spill from cafés along Bakklandet's cobbled lanes and the smell of fresh skillingsboller drifts through bakery doors. Winters bring blue twilight by mid-afternoon; summers stretch past midnight, the sky never quite darkening. The rhythm here is quieter than Oslo's, shaped by the fjord's moods and the hum of a university town that's never stopped reinventing itself.

Frequently asked questions

How does home exchange on SwappaHome work?

You list your home, earn 1 credit for every night you host a guest, and spend those credits to stay at any other home in the network — always 1 credit per night. No money changes hands between members. New accounts start with 10 free credits, so you can book your first trip before you've hosted anyone.

Is it safe to swap homes with strangers?

Every member goes through identity verification before they can list or book. All messages run through our encrypted chat. After each stay, guests and hosts leave mutual reviews — reputation is the foundation of the whole community, and members with low ratings lose access. For extra peace of mind, we recommend confirming house rules in writing before arrival.

Do I need to swap directly with the same person?

No. SwappaHome uses a credit system, not direct 1-to-1 swaps. You can host a family from Berlin and use the credits you earn to stay with a completely different host in Tokyo six months later. It makes travel dates, destinations and group sizes much easier to match.

Can I join if I don't own a home?

Yes — you can earn credits by hosting in a spare room, a long-term rental (if your lease allows guests) or by gifting/receiving credits from other members. You can also buy a starter pack if you want to travel before you host. Listing your primary home is the most common path, but it's not the only one.

What's the best time to visit Trondheim?

Late spring through early autumn offers the gentlest weather and longest days—June and July bring the midnight sun, perfect for cycling along the Nidelva or hiking Bymarka's forested trails. Winter transforms the city: snow softens the wooden architecture, Christmas markets glow around the cathedral, and if you're lucky, the northern lights shimmer over the fjord. September's golden light and fewer crowds make it a local favourite, though you'll want layers—coastal weather shifts quickly, even in summer.
