Home Exchange in Tromsø

No verified homes listed in Tromsø yet — the first hosts get priority placement.

In Troms, the light does strange things. Winter afternoons arrive in shades of violet at 2pm; summer nights refuse to end, the sun circling the horizon like a marble that won't drop. This is Arctic Norway, where the rhythm isn't set by clocks but by auroras, by the first snow on the peaks above Tromsø, by the return of the cod. Staying in a local home here means waking to that particular northern silence, learning which bakery makes the best skoleboller, understanding why Norwegians leave their boots by every door. The homes below open the door to that rhythm.

Frequently asked questions

How does home exchange on SwappaHome work?

You list your home, earn 1 credit for every night you host a guest, and spend those credits to stay at any other home in the network — always 1 credit per night. No money changes hands between members. New accounts start with 10 free credits, so you can book your first trip before you've hosted anyone.

Is it safe to swap homes with strangers?

Every member goes through identity verification before they can list or book. All conversations happen inside the SwappaHome platform — you never have to share your personal email or phone number to coordinate a swap. After each stay, guests and hosts leave mutual reviews — reputation is the foundation of the whole community, and members with low ratings lose access. For extra peace of mind, we recommend confirming house rules in writing before arrival.

Do I need to swap directly with the same person?

No. SwappaHome uses a credit system, not direct 1-to-1 swaps. You can host a family from Berlin and use the credits you earn to stay with a completely different host in Tokyo six months later. It makes travel dates, destinations and group sizes much easier to match.

Can I join if I don't own a home?

Yes — you can earn credits by hosting in a spare room, a long-term rental (if your lease allows guests) or by gifting/receiving credits from other members. You can also buy a starter pack if you want to travel before you host. Listing your primary home is the most common path, but it's not the only one.

When should I visit Troms to see the Northern Lights?

The aurora season runs from late September through March, with the darkest and statistically clearest skies in January and February. Tromsø sits directly under the auroral oval, so chances are strong on clear nights. That said, locals will tell you: pack for cold (deep cold), dress in layers, and don't plan your whole trip around the lights — the blue hour, the mountains, the coastal culture, and the surprisingly vibrant food scene reward you regardless of what the sky does.
