Home Exchange in Tromsø
No verified homes listed in Tromsø yet — the first hosts get priority placement.
Troms stretches across islands and fjords where the midnight sun hangs low in summer and the northern lights ripple green across winter darkness. Tromsø, the Arctic gateway, hums with wooden houses painted ochre and rust, cafés serving whale steak and cloudberries, and a university crowd that keeps the pubs lively even when snow piles waist-high. Beyond the city, fishing villages cling to rocky coasts, reindeer trails cross the highlands, and silence settles so thick you hear the creak of sea ice. This is Norway at its most elemental—raw, bright, and impossibly far north.

Frequently asked questions
How does home exchange on SwappaHome work?
You list your home, earn 1 credit for every night you host a guest, and spend those credits to stay at any other home in the network — always 1 credit per night. No money changes hands between members. New accounts start with 10 free credits, so you can book your first trip before you've hosted anyone.
Is it safe to swap homes with strangers?
Every member goes through identity verification before they can list or book. All messages run through our encrypted chat. After each stay, guests and hosts leave mutual reviews — reputation is the foundation of the whole community, and members with low ratings lose access. For extra peace of mind, we recommend confirming house rules in writing before arrival.
Do I need to swap directly with the same person?
No. SwappaHome uses a credit system, not direct 1-to-1 swaps. You can host a family from Berlin and use the credits you earn to stay with a completely different host in Tokyo six months later. It makes travel dates, destinations and group sizes much easier to match.
Can I join if I don't own a home?
Yes — you can earn credits by hosting in a spare room, a long-term rental (if your lease allows guests) or by gifting/receiving credits from other members. You can also buy a starter pack if you want to travel before you host. Listing your primary home is the most common path, but it's not the only one.
When's the best time to experience Troms?
Winter (November to March) brings northern lights and polar night, when darkness at midday feels almost ceremonial. Late May through July offers the midnight sun—endless golden hours for hiking, sailing, and watching terns dive at 2 a.m. Spring and autumn are brief, moody, and quieter, with fewer visitors and dramatic light. Pack serious layers year-round; Arctic weather shifts fast, and even summer evenings can bite.
