Home Exchange in Braga
No verified homes listed in Braga yet — the first hosts get priority placement.
Braga wears its age gracefully. Portugal's oldest city hums with Baroque grandeur and Roman bones, where gilded churches catch the afternoon light and narrow lanes open onto sun-bleached squares. Students spill out of cafés near the university, and on weekends, families climb the zigzag staircase to Bom Jesus do Monte, the hilltop sanctuary that watches over red-tiled rooftops. The pace here feels unhurried—mornings begin with pastéis de nata and strong coffee, evenings stretch long over bacalhau and vinho verde. Stay in the historic centre and you're walking distance from everything that matters: the cathedral's Romanesque arches, the gardens of Santa Bárbara, the markets where vendors still call out the day's catch.

Frequently asked questions
How does home exchange on SwappaHome work?
You list your home, earn 1 credit for every night you host a guest, and spend those credits to stay at any other home in the network — always 1 credit per night. No money changes hands between members. New accounts start with 10 free credits, so you can book your first trip before you've hosted anyone.
Is it safe to swap homes with strangers?
Every member goes through identity verification before they can list or book. All messages run through our encrypted chat. After each stay, guests and hosts leave mutual reviews — reputation is the foundation of the whole community, and members with low ratings lose access. For extra peace of mind, we recommend confirming house rules in writing before arrival.
Do I need to swap directly with the same person?
No. SwappaHome uses a credit system, not direct 1-to-1 swaps. You can host a family from Berlin and use the credits you earn to stay with a completely different host in Tokyo six months later. It makes travel dates, destinations and group sizes much easier to match.
Can I join if I don't own a home?
Yes — you can earn credits by hosting in a spare room, a long-term rental (if your lease allows guests) or by gifting/receiving credits from other members. You can also buy a starter pack if you want to travel before you host. Listing your primary home is the most common path, but it's not the only one.
What's the best time to experience Braga's festivals and weather?
Spring and early summer bring Braga to life. Semana Santa in March or April fills the streets with processions and flowers, while São João in June lights up the night with bonfires and grilled sardines. The weather's warm but not scorching, perfect for wandering cobbled lanes and climbing to Bom Jesus. Autumn's also lovely—fewer crowds, golden light, and the grape harvest in nearby Minho wine country. Winters are mild and wet, though the city takes on a quieter, more contemplative mood that suits its ancient churches.
