Home Exchange in Sintra
No verified homes listed in Sintra yet — the first hosts get priority placement.
Sintra rises from the coastal plain in a tangle of mist and forest, where Moorish palaces cling to granite peaks and quintas hide behind walls thick with camellias. The air here tastes different—cooler, damper—carried up from the Atlantic through pine groves and fern-choked ravines. Locals queue at pastelarias for travesseiros and queijadas, pastries that've been made the same way for centuries, while the Pena Palace glows improbable shades of ochre and violet above the canopy. It's a place that rewards slow mornings and long walks, where every cobbled lane seems to curl toward another hidden garden or crumbling chapel.

Frequently asked questions
How does home exchange on SwappaHome work?
You list your home, earn 1 credit for every night you host a guest, and spend those credits to stay at any other home in the network — always 1 credit per night. No money changes hands between members. New accounts start with 10 free credits, so you can book your first trip before you've hosted anyone.
Is it safe to swap homes with strangers?
Every member goes through identity verification before they can list or book. All messages run through our encrypted chat. After each stay, guests and hosts leave mutual reviews — reputation is the foundation of the whole community, and members with low ratings lose access. For extra peace of mind, we recommend confirming house rules in writing before arrival.
Do I need to swap directly with the same person?
No. SwappaHome uses a credit system, not direct 1-to-1 swaps. You can host a family from Berlin and use the credits you earn to stay with a completely different host in Tokyo six months later. It makes travel dates, destinations and group sizes much easier to match.
Can I join if I don't own a home?
Yes — you can earn credits by hosting in a spare room, a long-term rental (if your lease allows guests) or by gifting/receiving credits from other members. You can also buy a starter pack if you want to travel before you host. Listing your primary home is the most common path, but it's not the only one.
Which parts of Sintra feel most authentic?
The historic centre around the National Palace hums with daily life—markets, tascas serving caldo verde, neighbours chatting in doorways. São Pedro de Sintra, just uphill, hosts a lively antiques fair twice monthly and feels less polished, more lived-in. For quiet, head toward Colares or the villages tucked into the western slopes of the serra, where vineyards meet the forest and you'll hear more birdsong than tour buses. Early mornings and late afternoons belong to the locals everywhere.
