Home Exchange in Évora

No verified homes listed in Évora yet — the first hosts get priority placement.

Évora feels like stepping into a living museum, where Roman columns rise beside whitewashed houses and medieval alleyways open onto sun-bleached squares. This UNESCO-listed Alentejo capital moves to a slower rhythm — long lunches of açorda and black pork, afternoons when shutters close against the heat, evenings when the cathedral's silhouette darkens against apricot skies. The city wears its layers openly: Moorish arches, Renaissance fountains, azulejo-lined chapels. Beyond the walls, cork forests and vineyards stretch toward horizons that seem impossibly wide, and the light has a particular golden weight that painters spend careers trying to capture.

Frequently asked questions

How does home exchange on SwappaHome work?

You list your home, earn 1 credit for every night you host a guest, and spend those credits to stay at any other home in the network — always 1 credit per night. No money changes hands between members. New accounts start with 10 free credits, so you can book your first trip before you've hosted anyone.

Is it safe to swap homes with strangers?

Every member goes through identity verification before they can list or book. All messages run through our encrypted chat. After each stay, guests and hosts leave mutual reviews — reputation is the foundation of the whole community, and members with low ratings lose access. For extra peace of mind, we recommend confirming house rules in writing before arrival.

Do I need to swap directly with the same person?

No. SwappaHome uses a credit system, not direct 1-to-1 swaps. You can host a family from Berlin and use the credits you earn to stay with a completely different host in Tokyo six months later. It makes travel dates, destinations and group sizes much easier to match.

Can I join if I don't own a home?

Yes — you can earn credits by hosting in a spare room, a long-term rental (if your lease allows guests) or by gifting/receiving credits from other members. You can also buy a starter pack if you want to travel before you host. Listing your primary home is the most common path, but it's not the only one.

When's the best time to visit Évora?

Spring and autumn offer the gentlest weather — wildflowers carpet the plains in April and May, while September and October bring harvest season and cooler evenings perfect for wandering the old town. Summer heat can be fierce in the Alentejo, with temperatures often climbing past 35°C, though the dry air makes it bearable and siestas become essential. Winter is mild and quiet, with occasional rain turning the countryside green and far fewer visitors filling the cobbled streets.
