Home Exchange in Sibiu

No verified homes listed in Sibiu yet — the first hosts get priority placement.

Sibiu unfolds around cobbled squares where Gothic spires lean against pastel baroque facades, their famous 'eyes' — dormer windows shaped like half-closed lids — watching from steep terracotta roofs. Mornings smell of covrigi and fresh bread from corner bakeries; evenings hum with wine bars tucked into medieval cellars beneath the Lower Town. The Carpathians rise just beyond the city limits, close enough for weekend hikes through beech forests or drives along the Transfăgărășan. Between Piața Mare and the Bridge of Lies, Sibiu feels both intimate and layered — a Saxon merchant town that never lost its knack for good living.

Frequently asked questions

How does home exchange on SwappaHome work?

You list your home, earn 1 credit for every night you host a guest, and spend those credits to stay at any other home in the network — always 1 credit per night. No money changes hands between members. New accounts start with 10 free credits, so you can book your first trip before you've hosted anyone.

Is it safe to swap homes with strangers?

Every member goes through identity verification before they can list or book. All messages run through our encrypted chat. After each stay, guests and hosts leave mutual reviews — reputation is the foundation of the whole community, and members with low ratings lose access. For extra peace of mind, we recommend confirming house rules in writing before arrival.

Do I need to swap directly with the same person?

No. SwappaHome uses a credit system, not direct 1-to-1 swaps. You can host a family from Berlin and use the credits you earn to stay with a completely different host in Tokyo six months later. It makes travel dates, destinations and group sizes much easier to match.

Can I join if I don't own a home?

Yes — you can earn credits by hosting in a spare room, a long-term rental (if your lease allows guests) or by gifting/receiving credits from other members. You can also buy a starter pack if you want to travel before you host. Listing your primary home is the most common path, but it's not the only one.

Which neighbourhoods in Sibiu feel most authentic?

The Lower Town (Orașul de Jos) runs along the Cibin River with quieter lanes, artisan workshops, and family-run restaurants where you'll hear more Romanian than English. The Upper Town around Piața Mare and Piața Mică is postcard-perfect but lively year-round, especially during festival season. For a slower pace, wander toward Sub Arini or the streets climbing toward Dumbrava Forest — you'll find neighbourhood markets, corner bakeries, and the rhythm of daily Sibiu life away from the main squares.
