Home Exchange in Durban
No verified homes listed in Durban yet — the first hosts get priority placement.
Durban sprawls along the Indian Ocean with a humid, subtropical ease that feels more Southeast Asian than stereotypically South African. The Golden Mile beachfront hums with surfers and joggers at dawn, while the Warwick Junction markets overflow with bunny chow, saris, and the scent of crushed coriander. Inland, the Berea ridge offers cooler air and jacaranda-lined streets. This is a city shaped by waves, spice, and the layered histories of Zulu, Indian, and colonial cultures—a place where you'll hear isiZulu and Gujarati in the same queue for samoosas.

Frequently asked questions
How does home exchange on SwappaHome work?
You list your home, earn 1 credit for every night you host a guest, and spend those credits to stay at any other home in the network — always 1 credit per night. No money changes hands between members. New accounts start with 10 free credits, so you can book your first trip before you've hosted anyone.
Is it safe to swap homes with strangers?
Every member goes through identity verification before they can list or book. All messages run through our encrypted chat. After each stay, guests and hosts leave mutual reviews — reputation is the foundation of the whole community, and members with low ratings lose access. For extra peace of mind, we recommend confirming house rules in writing before arrival.
Do I need to swap directly with the same person?
No. SwappaHome uses a credit system, not direct 1-to-1 swaps. You can host a family from Berlin and use the credits you earn to stay with a completely different host in Tokyo six months later. It makes travel dates, destinations and group sizes much easier to match.
Can I join if I don't own a home?
Yes — you can earn credits by hosting in a spare room, a long-term rental (if your lease allows guests) or by gifting/receiving credits from other members. You can also buy a starter pack if you want to travel before you host. Listing your primary home is the most common path, but it's not the only one.
What's the weather like in Durban year-round?
Durban enjoys warm, humid weather nearly all year, with summer (December to February) bringing afternoon thunderstorms and temperatures often above 30°C. Winter (June to August) is mild and dry, rarely dipping below 20°C during the day—perfect for beach walks without the crowds. The ocean stays swimmable year-round thanks to the warm Agulhas Current. Pack light layers and sunscreen whatever the season.
