Home Exchange in Zermatt
No verified homes listed in Zermatt yet — the first hosts get priority placement.
Zermatt sits at the end of a valley where the Matterhorn's pyramid cuts the sky so cleanly it feels like a postcard made real. Car-free streets smell of pine and fresh bread from bakeries tucked between century-old chalets. Mornings bring the scrape of ski edges on snow, afternoons the clink of glasses on sun-warmed terraces. Whether you're here for the high trails in summer or the powder bowls in winter, the village holds a particular alpine rhythm — unhurried despite the peaks overhead, intimate despite the crowds that come for that famous silhouette.

Frequently asked questions
How does home exchange on SwappaHome work?
You list your home, earn 1 credit for every night you host a guest, and spend those credits to stay at any other home in the network — always 1 credit per night. No money changes hands between members. New accounts start with 10 free credits, so you can book your first trip before you've hosted anyone.
Is it safe to swap homes with strangers?
Every member goes through identity verification before they can list or book. All messages run through our encrypted chat. After each stay, guests and hosts leave mutual reviews — reputation is the foundation of the whole community, and members with low ratings lose access. For extra peace of mind, we recommend confirming house rules in writing before arrival.
Do I need to swap directly with the same person?
No. SwappaHome uses a credit system, not direct 1-to-1 swaps. You can host a family from Berlin and use the credits you earn to stay with a completely different host in Tokyo six months later. It makes travel dates, destinations and group sizes much easier to match.
Can I join if I don't own a home?
Yes — you can earn credits by hosting in a spare room, a long-term rental (if your lease allows guests) or by gifting/receiving credits from other members. You can also buy a starter pack if you want to travel before you host. Listing your primary home is the most common path, but it's not the only one.
What's the best way to experience Zermatt beyond the ski slopes?
Summer transforms Zermatt into a hiker's dream, with trails threading through larch forests and past glacial lakes under the Matterhorn's gaze. The Gornergrat railway climbs to panoramas that stretch across dozens of peaks. In the village itself, wander the Hinterdorfstrasse to find old wooden granaries raised on stone mushrooms, or linger in family-run wine bars pouring Valais Heida and fondue that tastes of the pastures above. Early mornings are quietest — the light hits the mountains just so, and the electric taxis hum softly past shuttered shops.
