Home Exchange in Ankara

No verified homes listed in Ankara yet — the first hosts get priority placement.

Ankara sprawls across the Anatolian plateau, a city of contradictions where ancient Hittite ruins meet brutalist government buildings and glass-fronted shopping districts. The air smells of simit and coal smoke in winter, when fog settles into the valleys. Ulus, the old quarter, climbs steep streets past Ottoman houses and spice vendors, while Çankaya's tree-lined avenues hum with embassy staff and university students. Spring brings wild tulips to the hills. This is Turkey's political heart, less polished than Istanbul, more reserved—but the meyhanes still fill with raki and conversation, and the Anatolian sun still turns everything golden by late afternoon.

Frequently asked questions

How does home exchange on SwappaHome work?

You list your home, earn 1 credit for every night you host a guest, and spend those credits to stay at any other home in the network — always 1 credit per night. No money changes hands between members. New accounts start with 10 free credits, so you can book your first trip before you've hosted anyone.

Is it safe to swap homes with strangers?

Every member goes through identity verification before they can list or book. All messages run through our encrypted chat. After each stay, guests and hosts leave mutual reviews — reputation is the foundation of the whole community, and members with low ratings lose access. For extra peace of mind, we recommend confirming house rules in writing before arrival.

Do I need to swap directly with the same person?

No. SwappaHome uses a credit system, not direct 1-to-1 swaps. You can host a family from Berlin and use the credits you earn to stay with a completely different host in Tokyo six months later. It makes travel dates, destinations and group sizes much easier to match.

Can I join if I don't own a home?

Yes — you can earn credits by hosting in a spare room, a long-term rental (if your lease allows guests) or by gifting/receiving credits from other members. You can also buy a starter pack if you want to travel before you host. Listing your primary home is the most common path, but it's not the only one.

What's the best time to visit Ankara?

Spring and early autumn are ideal—April through June and September through October bring mild days and clear skies, perfect for exploring the castle and outdoor cafés. Summers can be scorching and dry, with temperatures often climbing past 35°C. Winter is cold and sometimes snowy, with biting winds sweeping down from the steppe, though the city takes on a quiet, contemplative beauty under grey skies. If you're coming for culture rather than weather, any season works—Ankara's museums, concert halls, and köfte houses don't close.
