Home Exchange in Izmir
No verified homes listed in Izmir yet — the first hosts get priority placement.
Izmir sprawls along the Aegean, all sea breeze and crumbling Ottoman façades giving way to modern promenades. The scent of simit and strong tea drifts through Kemeraltı's labyrinth, where spice vendors and goldsmiths have traded for centuries. Neighbourhoods like Alsancak hum with meyhanes and art galleries, while Karşıyaka across the bay feels quieter, more residential. This is Turkey's most secular, laid-back city—a place where you can swim before breakfast and wander Roman ruins by afternoon, then settle into a long dinner of rakı and meze as the sun drops into the gulf.

Frequently asked questions
How does home exchange on SwappaHome work?
You list your home, earn 1 credit for every night you host a guest, and spend those credits to stay at any other home in the network — always 1 credit per night. No money changes hands between members. New accounts start with 10 free credits, so you can book your first trip before you've hosted anyone.
Is it safe to swap homes with strangers?
Every member goes through identity verification before they can list or book. All messages run through our encrypted chat. After each stay, guests and hosts leave mutual reviews — reputation is the foundation of the whole community, and members with low ratings lose access. For extra peace of mind, we recommend confirming house rules in writing before arrival.
Do I need to swap directly with the same person?
No. SwappaHome uses a credit system, not direct 1-to-1 swaps. You can host a family from Berlin and use the credits you earn to stay with a completely different host in Tokyo six months later. It makes travel dates, destinations and group sizes much easier to match.
Can I join if I don't own a home?
Yes — you can earn credits by hosting in a spare room, a long-term rental (if your lease allows guests) or by gifting/receiving credits from other members. You can also buy a starter pack if you want to travel before you host. Listing your primary home is the most common path, but it's not the only one.
When's the best time to visit Izmir?
Spring and autumn are ideal—April through June and September through November bring warm days without the scorching peak-summer heat. The Aegean stays swimmable well into October. Winters are mild and rainy, perfect if you prefer emptier streets and cheaper stays. Summer means festival season and packed beaches, but also intense sun. If you're chasing fig harvests and grape season in nearby villages, late August and September deliver.
