Home Exchange in Austin

No verified homes listed in Austin yet — the first hosts get priority placement.

Austin hums with contradictions: a state capital that feels like a college town, a tech hub where food trucks outnumber suits, a place where you can catch live music seven nights a week and still wake to the sound of grackles in the live oaks. The city sprawls across the Hill Country, where Barton Springs feeds a cold, spring-fed pool year-round and taco trailers serve breakfast tacos that locals debate with religious fervour. South Congress feels like vintage Americana, East Austin pulses with murals and new restaurants, and the neighbourhoods west of MoPac climb into quiet, leafy hills. It's a city that wears its weirdness proudly, even as it grows.

Frequently asked questions

How does home exchange on SwappaHome work?

You list your home, earn 1 credit for every night you host a guest, and spend those credits to stay at any other home in the network — always 1 credit per night. No money changes hands between members. New accounts start with 10 free credits, so you can book your first trip before you've hosted anyone.

Is it safe to swap homes with strangers?

Every member goes through identity verification before they can list or book. All messages run through our encrypted chat. After each stay, guests and hosts leave mutual reviews — reputation is the foundation of the whole community, and members with low ratings lose access. For extra peace of mind, we recommend confirming house rules in writing before arrival.

Do I need to swap directly with the same person?

No. SwappaHome uses a credit system, not direct 1-to-1 swaps. You can host a family from Berlin and use the credits you earn to stay with a completely different host in Tokyo six months later. It makes travel dates, destinations and group sizes much easier to match.

Can I join if I don't own a home?

Yes — you can earn credits by hosting in a spare room, a long-term rental (if your lease allows guests) or by gifting/receiving credits from other members. You can also buy a starter pack if you want to travel before you host. Listing your primary home is the most common path, but it's not the only one.

Which Austin neighbourhoods feel most local?

East Austin has become the creative heart — murals, cafés, and a thriving food scene that feels more neighbourhood than tourist trail. South Congress (SoCo) offers vintage shops and quirky charm, while Hyde Park and Clarksville, closer to the university and downtown, have tree-lined streets and older bungalows. If you want hill views and quiet, Tarrytown and West Lake Hills sit above the city. Each pocket has its own rhythm, but all share that laid-back, porch-sitting, taco-eating Austin sensibility.
