Home Exchange in San Diego

No verified homes listed in San Diego yet — the first hosts get priority placement.

San Diego unfolds between seventy miles of Pacific coastline and canyon-carved mesas where eucalyptus trees whisper in the dry wind. Mornings taste like fish tacos from a beach shack in Ocean Beach, afternoons smell of salt and sunscreen in La Jolla Cove. Neighbourhoods have distinct personalities—North Park's craft beer porches, Little Italy's Saturday market spilling onto sidewalks, the Victorian gingerbread of Coronado Island. The light here is famously golden, the pace unhurried despite the city's size, and you're never more than twenty minutes from either a surf break or a hiking trail threading through coastal sage.

Frequently asked questions

How does home exchange on SwappaHome work?

You list your home, earn 1 credit for every night you host a guest, and spend those credits to stay at any other home in the network — always 1 credit per night. No money changes hands between members. New accounts start with 10 free credits, so you can book your first trip before you've hosted anyone.

Is it safe to swap homes with strangers?

Every member goes through identity verification before they can list or book. All messages run through our encrypted chat. After each stay, guests and hosts leave mutual reviews — reputation is the foundation of the whole community, and members with low ratings lose access. For extra peace of mind, we recommend confirming house rules in writing before arrival.

Do I need to swap directly with the same person?

No. SwappaHome uses a credit system, not direct 1-to-1 swaps. You can host a family from Berlin and use the credits you earn to stay with a completely different host in Tokyo six months later. It makes travel dates, destinations and group sizes much easier to match.

Can I join if I don't own a home?

Yes — you can earn credits by hosting in a spare room, a long-term rental (if your lease allows guests) or by gifting/receiving credits from other members. You can also buy a starter pack if you want to travel before you host. Listing your primary home is the most common path, but it's not the only one.

Which San Diego neighbourhoods feel most local?

North Park and South Park pulse with independent coffee roasters, vintage shops, and taco joints where regulars know each other's orders. Normal Heights feels residential and walkable, with craftsman bungalows and weekend farmers' markets. For coastal living without the tourist crush, try Ocean Beach—still a little scruffy, still beloved by surfers and dog owners. Golden Hill offers hillside views and Victorian architecture east of Balboa Park, while Little Italy blends waterfront energy with genuine Italian delis that have been there for decades.
