Home Exchange in La Serena
No verified homes listed in La Serena yet — the first hosts get priority placement.
The morning fog rolls in from the Pacific, softening the colonial bell towers and wrought-iron balconies that line La Serena's grid of pastel streets. This is Chile's second-oldest city, where the rhythm moves between beach mornings and plaza evenings, where fishermen sell congrio at the Recova market and families gather for completos piled high with avocado. Staying in a home here means waking to the sound of gulls, walking to the Avenida del Mar for sunset, and learning which corner almacén stocks the best pisco. The homes below open the door to that rhythm.

Frequently asked questions
How does home exchange on SwappaHome work?
You list your home, earn 1 credit for every night you host a guest, and spend those credits to stay at any other home in the network — always 1 credit per night. No money changes hands between members. New accounts start with 7 free credits — one full week — so you can book your first trip before you've hosted anyone.
Is it safe to swap homes with strangers?
Every member goes through identity verification before they can list or book. All conversations happen inside the SwappaHome platform — you never have to share your personal email or phone number to coordinate a swap. After each stay, guests and hosts leave mutual reviews — reputation is the foundation of the whole community, and members with low ratings lose access. For extra peace of mind, we recommend confirming house rules in writing before arrival.
Do I need to swap directly with the same person?
No. SwappaHome uses a credit system, not direct 1-to-1 swaps. You can host a family from Berlin and use the credits you earn to stay with a completely different host in Tokyo six months later. It makes travel dates, destinations and group sizes much easier to match.
Can I join if I don't own a home?
Yes — you can earn credits by hosting in a spare room, a long-term rental (if your lease allows guests) or by gifting/receiving credits from other members. You can also buy a starter pack if you want to travel before you host. Listing your primary home is the most common path, but it's not the only one.
When is the best time to visit La Serena?
December through March brings warm, dry weather ideal for beaches and the nearby Elqui Valley. The coastal fog, known as camanchaca, is most common in winter (June–August), but those months offer quieter streets and clear stargazing nights inland. Spring (September–November) is lovely for wildflower blooms in the surrounding hills and mild temperatures. Avoid mid-January if you prefer calm — that's peak Chilean summer holiday season.
