Home Exchange in Santiago
No verified homes listed in Santiago yet — the first hosts get priority placement.
Santiago wakes to the sound of church bells echoing off the Andes, which loom so close you can ski in the morning and be back for lunch in Barrio Italia. The city moves between extremes—colonial plazas give way to glass towers, and a single afternoon can take you from a dusty mercado where vendors sell merkén and fresh pebre to a rooftop bar in Lastarria where pisco sours arrive with mountain views. Living here, even briefly, means learning the rhythm of once elevenses, the late dinners that start at ten, the Sunday asados that stretch into dusk. The homes below open the door to that rhythm.

Frequently asked questions
How does home exchange on SwappaHome work?
You list your home, earn 1 credit for every night you host a guest, and spend those credits to stay at any other home in the network — always 1 credit per night. No money changes hands between members. New accounts start with 7 free credits — one full week — so you can book your first trip before you've hosted anyone.
Is it safe to swap homes with strangers?
Every member goes through identity verification before they can list or book. All conversations happen inside the SwappaHome platform — you never have to share your personal email or phone number to coordinate a swap. After each stay, guests and hosts leave mutual reviews — reputation is the foundation of the whole community, and members with low ratings lose access. For extra peace of mind, we recommend confirming house rules in writing before arrival.
Do I need to swap directly with the same person?
No. SwappaHome uses a credit system, not direct 1-to-1 swaps. You can host a family from Berlin and use the credits you earn to stay with a completely different host in Tokyo six months later. It makes travel dates, destinations and group sizes much easier to match.
Can I join if I don't own a home?
Yes — you can earn credits by hosting in a spare room, a long-term rental (if your lease allows guests) or by gifting/receiving credits from other members. You can also buy a starter pack if you want to travel before you host. Listing your primary home is the most common path, but it's not the only one.
Which neighbourhoods in Santiago feel most local?
Barrio Italia offers tree-lined streets, vintage shops, and neighbourhood cafés where locals linger over cortados. Bellavista sprawls colourful and bohemian beneath Cerro San Cristóbal, while Ñuñoa to the east feels residential and family-oriented, with parks and corner almacenes. Lastarria skews cultural—museums, independent bookshops, weekend antique fairs—but still hums with daily life. Avoid staying only in Las Condes or Vitacura if you want the cadence of mercados and corner empanada stands over malls and highways.
