Home Exchange in Valparaiso

No verified homes listed in Valparaiso yet — the first hosts get priority placement.

The ascensores creak upward through pastel-painted neighbourhoods that cascade down forty-two hills to the Pacific. Valparaíso wears its UNESCO status lightly — street art blooms on crumbling facades, fishermen sell congrio at the port before dawn, and the smell of empanadas frying drifts from corner windows where locals still hang laundry across cobblestone alleys. This is a city that rewards slow mornings on a cerro balcony with coffee and fog, evenings in Barrio Bellavista where poets once lived, and the kind of rhythm you only find when you have keys to a place rather than a checkout time. The homes below open the door to that particular cadence.

Frequently asked questions

How does home exchange on SwappaHome work?

You list your home, earn 1 credit for every night you host a guest, and spend those credits to stay at any other home in the network — always 1 credit per night. No money changes hands between members. New accounts start with 7 free credits — one full week — so you can book your first trip before you've hosted anyone.

Is it safe to swap homes with strangers?

Every member goes through identity verification before they can list or book. All conversations happen inside the SwappaHome platform — you never have to share your personal email or phone number to coordinate a swap. After each stay, guests and hosts leave mutual reviews — reputation is the foundation of the whole community, and members with low ratings lose access. For extra peace of mind, we recommend confirming house rules in writing before arrival.

Do I need to swap directly with the same person?

No. SwappaHome uses a credit system, not direct 1-to-1 swaps. You can host a family from Berlin and use the credits you earn to stay with a completely different host in Tokyo six months later. It makes travel dates, destinations and group sizes much easier to match.

Can I join if I don't own a home?

Yes — you can earn credits by hosting in a spare room, a long-term rental (if your lease allows guests) or by gifting/receiving credits from other members. You can also buy a starter pack if you want to travel before you host. Listing your primary home is the most common path, but it's not the only one.

Which cerros feel most authentic for staying in Valparaíso?

Cerro Alegre and Cerro Concepción draw the most visitors, but Cerro Bellavista and Cerro Cárcel hold onto quieter, more residential rhythms — washing lines strung between houses, neighbourhood almacenes, fewer tour groups. Cerro Panteón offers sweeping bay views without the boutique hotel density. Most cerros connect via steep staircases and the occasional functioning ascensor; comfortable shoes matter more than a car here. Autumn and spring bring the gentlest weather, though winter fog has its own moody charm along the coast.
