Home Exchange in Hiroshima

No verified homes listed in Hiroshima yet — the first hosts get priority placement.

Hiroshima wakes to the smell of okonomiyaki sizzling on griddles, cabbage and noodles layered thick the way only this city does it. Beyond the Peace Memorial, life unfolds in shotengai arcades where grandmothers sell persimmons, and along the Motoyasu River where herons fish at dusk. The city's rhythm is gentle—trams rattle past rebuilt streets, oyster boats return to the delta, and Miyajima's floating torii glows orange across the water at sunset. What follows are the thresholds where that everyday grace begins.

Frequently asked questions

How does home exchange on SwappaHome work?

You list your home, earn 1 credit for every night you host a guest, and spend those credits to stay at any other home in the network — always 1 credit per night. No money changes hands between members. New accounts start with 7 free credits — one full week — so you can book your first trip before you've hosted anyone.

Is it safe to swap homes with strangers?

Every member goes through identity verification before they can list or book. All conversations happen inside the SwappaHome platform — you never have to share your personal email or phone number to coordinate a swap. After each stay, guests and hosts leave mutual reviews — reputation is the foundation of the whole community, and members with low ratings lose access. For extra peace of mind, we recommend confirming house rules in writing before arrival.

Do I need to swap directly with the same person?

No. SwappaHome uses a credit system, not direct 1-to-1 swaps. You can host a family from Berlin and use the credits you earn to stay with a completely different host in Tokyo six months later. It makes travel dates, destinations and group sizes much easier to match.

Can I join if I don't own a home?

Yes — you can earn credits by hosting in a spare room, a long-term rental (if your lease allows guests) or by gifting/receiving credits from other members. You can also buy a starter pack if you want to travel before you host. Listing your primary home is the most common path, but it's not the only one.

What's the best way to experience Hiroshima beyond the Peace Memorial?

Hiroshima reveals itself slowly. Spend mornings in Hondori's covered shopping arcade, where locals stop for coffee and red bean pastries. The Enko River walk leads to quiet temples in Mitaki, and the ferry to Miyajima—where deer wander between shrines and maple groves—takes twenty minutes. Autumn brings the maples, but spring's oyster season fills izakayas with Hiroshima's famous kaki. The tram network connects it all, rattling past postwar architecture that feels more lived-in than monumental.
