Home Exchange in Turku

No verified homes listed in Turku yet — the first hosts get priority placement.

In Turku, the oldest city in Finland, the Aura River cuts through the centre like a timeline—medieval castle on one bank, contemporary art museum on the other, wooden boats moored between centuries. Summer brings endless daylight and riverside picnics with strawberries and new potatoes; winter means sauna smoke curling into frozen air and candlelit cafés where locals nurse cloudberry tart and coffee. The archipelago begins just beyond the harbour, 20,000 islands scattering into the Baltic, reachable by ferry or bike. Living here, even briefly, means breakfast in a kitchen that smells of cardamom pulla, evenings when the sun refuses to set, and the quiet pride of a city that was capital before Helsinki existed. The homes below open the door to that rhythm.

Frequently asked questions

How does home exchange on SwappaHome work?

You list your home, earn 1 credit for every night you host a guest, and spend those credits to stay at any other home in the network — always 1 credit per night. No money changes hands between members. New accounts start with 7 free credits — one full week — so you can book your first trip before you've hosted anyone.

Is it safe to swap homes with strangers?

Every member goes through identity verification before they can list or book. All conversations happen inside the SwappaHome platform — you never have to share your personal email or phone number to coordinate a swap. After each stay, guests and hosts leave mutual reviews — reputation is the foundation of the whole community, and members with low ratings lose access. For extra peace of mind, we recommend confirming house rules in writing before arrival.

Do I need to swap directly with the same person?

No. SwappaHome uses a credit system, not direct 1-to-1 swaps. You can host a family from Berlin and use the credits you earn to stay with a completely different host in Tokyo six months later. It makes travel dates, destinations and group sizes much easier to match.

Can I join if I don't own a home?

Yes — you can earn credits by hosting in a spare room, a long-term rental (if your lease allows guests) or by gifting/receiving credits from other members. You can also buy a starter pack if you want to travel before you host. Listing your primary home is the most common path, but it's not the only one.

What's the best time to experience Turku?

June through August offers the midnight sun and the city's liveliest outdoor season—riverside terraces fill, the archipelago ferries run frequently, and festivals light up the castle grounds. December brings Christmas markets along the Aura and a cosy, candlelit atmosphere, though daylight is brief. Spring (May) and early autumn (September) offer a quieter, local pace: fewer tourists, crisp mornings, and the chance to see the city as residents do, between the peak seasons.
