Home Exchange in Gothenburg
No verified homes listed in Gothenburg yet — the first hosts get priority placement.
Gothenburg smells like cardamom buns and salt water. Sweden's second city sprawls along a working harbour where trams clatter past 19th-century canals and fishmongers still sell langoustines at dawn in Feskekôrka, the church-shaped fish market. The rhythm here is softer than Stockholm's — locals linger over fika in Haga's wooden-house cafés, cycle along the southern archipelago's car-free islands, and queue patiently for cinnamon buns at Café Husaren. To live here, even briefly, is to slip into that unhurried cadence: morning swims off smooth granite rocks, evenings in kitchens that open onto quiet courtyards. The homes below open the door to that rhythm.

Frequently asked questions
How does home exchange on SwappaHome work?
You list your home, earn 1 credit for every night you host a guest, and spend those credits to stay at any other home in the network — always 1 credit per night. No money changes hands between members. New accounts start with 7 free credits — one full week — so you can book your first trip before you've hosted anyone.
Is it safe to swap homes with strangers?
Every member goes through identity verification before they can list or book. All conversations happen inside the SwappaHome platform — you never have to share your personal email or phone number to coordinate a swap. After each stay, guests and hosts leave mutual reviews — reputation is the foundation of the whole community, and members with low ratings lose access. For extra peace of mind, we recommend confirming house rules in writing before arrival.
Do I need to swap directly with the same person?
No. SwappaHome uses a credit system, not direct 1-to-1 swaps. You can host a family from Berlin and use the credits you earn to stay with a completely different host in Tokyo six months later. It makes travel dates, destinations and group sizes much easier to match.
Can I join if I don't own a home?
Yes — you can earn credits by hosting in a spare room, a long-term rental (if your lease allows guests) or by gifting/receiving credits from other members. You can also buy a starter pack if you want to travel before you host. Listing your primary home is the most common path, but it's not the only one.
Which neighbourhoods in Gothenburg feel most local?
Haga offers cobblestone charm and vintage shops in 17th-century wooden houses, while Linnéstaden hums with young families, corner bakeries, and leafy streets named after botanists. Majorna, west of the harbour, feels grittier and more working-class — think record shops, vinyl bars, and the city's best sourdough. For waterfront quiet, the southern archipelago's islands like Styrsö and Vrångö are a short ferry ride away, where Swedes summer in red cottages and car-free lanes.
