Home Exchange in Kiruna

No verified homes listed in Kiruna yet — the first hosts get priority placement.

In Kiruna, the sun disappears for weeks in winter, and in summer it never quite sets — a rhythm that recalibrates how you spend a day. This is Swedish Lapland's iron-mining heart, where Sámi culture runs deep, reindeer cross the roads at dusk, and the northern lights ripple green across frozen lakes. Staying in a local home here means waking to that strange, beautiful light through double-paned windows, learning how to layer wool properly, and understanding why Swedes leave their boots by the door. The homes below open the door to that rhythm.

Frequently asked questions

How does home exchange on SwappaHome work?

You list your home, earn 1 credit for every night you host a guest, and spend those credits to stay at any other home in the network — always 1 credit per night. No money changes hands between members. New accounts start with 7 free credits — one full week — so you can book your first trip before you've hosted anyone.

Is it safe to swap homes with strangers?

Every member goes through identity verification before they can list or book. All conversations happen inside the SwappaHome platform — you never have to share your personal email or phone number to coordinate a swap. After each stay, guests and hosts leave mutual reviews — reputation is the foundation of the whole community, and members with low ratings lose access. For extra peace of mind, we recommend confirming house rules in writing before arrival.

Do I need to swap directly with the same person?

No. SwappaHome uses a credit system, not direct 1-to-1 swaps. You can host a family from Berlin and use the credits you earn to stay with a completely different host in Tokyo six months later. It makes travel dates, destinations and group sizes much easier to match.

Can I join if I don't own a home?

Yes — you can earn credits by hosting in a spare room, a long-term rental (if your lease allows guests) or by gifting/receiving credits from other members. You can also buy a starter pack if you want to travel before you host. Listing your primary home is the most common path, but it's not the only one.

When's the best time to visit Kiruna?

Winter (December to March) is peak aurora season, with deep snow, dog-sledding, and the famous Icehotel nearby. Polar night lasts from mid-December to early January — twilight at noon, stars all afternoon. Summer (June to August) brings the midnight sun, hiking in Abisko National Park, and wildflowers across the tundra. Spring and autumn are brief, quiet, and spectacular for those who prefer solitude. Winters are cold (often –20°C), but homes are built for it — heated floors, saunas, and that Scandinavian genius for cosy interiors.
