Seasonal Travel Home Exchange in United States

Every season opens up different parts of the country.

The United States unfolds in distinct seasonal rhythms that transform entire regions into different experiences. Autumn ignites New England's forests in crimson and gold, while spring brings wildflower superbloom across California deserts and the Southwest. Winter turns the Rockies and Sierra Nevada into snow-draped wonderlands, and summer opens up national parks from Yellowstone to Acadia when mountain passes finally clear. Seasonal travellers find America's vastness works in their favor—when one region swelters, another offers crisp mountain air or coastal breezes. Trading homes lets you settle into these rhythms properly: experiencing Vermont's sugar shacks in mud season, Florida's dry winter perfection, or Pacific Northwest's brief golden summer without the frantic pace of hotel-hopping.

Why United States works for seasonal travel

Homes, not hotel rooms

Live in a real United States home — kitchen, balcony, neighbourhood rhythm — instead of a generic hotel room.

Frequently asked questions

How does home exchange on SwappaHome work?

You list your home, earn 1 credit for every night you host a guest, and spend those credits to stay at any other home in the network — always 1 credit per night. No money changes hands between members. New accounts start with 10 free credits, so you can book your first trip before you've hosted anyone.

Is it safe to swap homes with strangers?

Every member goes through identity verification before they can list or book. All messages run through our encrypted chat. After each stay, guests and hosts leave mutual reviews — reputation is the foundation of the whole community, and members with low ratings lose access. For extra peace of mind, we recommend confirming house rules in writing before arrival.

Do I need to swap directly with the same person?

No. SwappaHome uses a credit system, not direct 1-to-1 swaps. You can host a family from Berlin and use the credits you earn to stay with a completely different host in Tokyo six months later. It makes travel dates, destinations and group sizes much easier to match.

Can I join if I don't own a home?

Yes — you can earn credits by hosting in a spare room, a long-term rental (if your lease allows guests) or by gifting/receiving credits from other members. You can also buy a starter pack if you want to travel before you host. Listing your primary home is the most common path, but it's not the only one.

What are the best seasonal windows for different regions of the United States?

The American Southwest shines October through April, avoiding scorching summers. New England peaks during September and October for foliage, though late spring brings lilacs and manageable crowds. The Pacific Northwest's secret season runs July through September—dry, warm, and spectacular. Florida and the Gulf Coast are sublime November through March, while summer belongs to northern lake regions and mountain states. Coastal California stays temperate year-round, but late spring and early fall offer the sweet spot between fog and crowds. Plan around shoulder seasons in popular areas: you'll find better weather than you expect and landscapes at their most photogenic.
