Home Exchange in Cairns
No verified homes listed in Cairns yet — the first hosts get priority placement.
Cairns sprawls between rainforest and reef, where the wet tropics meet the Coral Sea in a tangle of mangroves and marina lights. Mornings smell like frangipani and salt; afternoons hum with the whir of dive boats heading to the outer reef. The Esplanade curves along a lagoon instead of a beach—sand gave way to mudflats long ago—but the city's real draw lies offshore and uphill: turquoise cays, cassowary-haunted trails, and the oldest surviving rainforest on earth. Locals eat mud crabs by the kilo and speak in a drawl softened by humidity.

Frequently asked questions
How does home exchange on SwappaHome work?
You list your home, earn 1 credit for every night you host a guest, and spend those credits to stay at any other home in the network — always 1 credit per night. No money changes hands between members. New accounts start with 10 free credits, so you can book your first trip before you've hosted anyone.
Is it safe to swap homes with strangers?
Every member goes through identity verification before they can list or book. All messages run through our encrypted chat. After each stay, guests and hosts leave mutual reviews — reputation is the foundation of the whole community, and members with low ratings lose access. For extra peace of mind, we recommend confirming house rules in writing before arrival.
Do I need to swap directly with the same person?
No. SwappaHome uses a credit system, not direct 1-to-1 swaps. You can host a family from Berlin and use the credits you earn to stay with a completely different host in Tokyo six months later. It makes travel dates, destinations and group sizes much easier to match.
Can I join if I don't own a home?
Yes — you can earn credits by hosting in a spare room, a long-term rental (if your lease allows guests) or by gifting/receiving credits from other members. You can also buy a starter pack if you want to travel before you host. Listing your primary home is the most common path, but it's not the only one.
What's the best time to visit Cairns?
Winter—May through October—brings dry skies, calm seas, and temperatures that hover around 26°C. It's peak season for reef diving and rainforest walks, when the stingers retreat and the trails aren't slick with monsoonal rain. Summer is hot, sticky, and spectacular if you don't mind afternoon storms and the occasional cyclone watch. The shoulder months of April and November split the difference: fewer crowds, lower prices, and weather that swings between both moods.
