Home Exchange in Leuven

No verified homes listed in Leuven yet — the first hosts get priority placement.

Leuven hums with the energy of one of Europe's oldest university towns, where Gothic spires rise above cobbled squares and students spill from libraries into brown cafés serving Stella Artois—brewed here since 1366. The air smells of Belgian waffles and rain on old stone. Beyond the ornate town hall and the soaring St. Peter's Church, quiet residential streets lined with brick townhouses and Art Nouveau facades open onto the Dijle River's green banks. Spring brings blossoms to the Kruidtuin botanical garden; autumn turns the Arenberg woods copper and gold.

Frequently asked questions

How does home exchange on SwappaHome work?

You list your home, earn 1 credit for every night you host a guest, and spend those credits to stay at any other home in the network — always 1 credit per night. No money changes hands between members. New accounts start with 10 free credits, so you can book your first trip before you've hosted anyone.

Is it safe to swap homes with strangers?

Every member goes through identity verification before they can list or book. All messages run through our encrypted chat. After each stay, guests and hosts leave mutual reviews — reputation is the foundation of the whole community, and members with low ratings lose access. For extra peace of mind, we recommend confirming house rules in writing before arrival.

Do I need to swap directly with the same person?

No. SwappaHome uses a credit system, not direct 1-to-1 swaps. You can host a family from Berlin and use the credits you earn to stay with a completely different host in Tokyo six months later. It makes travel dates, destinations and group sizes much easier to match.

Can I join if I don't own a home?

Yes — you can earn credits by hosting in a spare room, a long-term rental (if your lease allows guests) or by gifting/receiving credits from other members. You can also buy a starter pack if you want to travel before you host. Listing your primary home is the most common path, but it's not the only one.

Which neighbourhoods capture Leuven's character best?

The Oude Markt—often called the longest bar in Europe—pulses with student life and historic architecture. Wander south into the quieter Vaartkom district, where old warehouses along the canal have become galleries and design studios. For tree-lined residential streets and local bakeries, explore the areas around Kapucijnenvoer or the parks near the ring road. The university quarter around Naamsestraat mixes medieval colleges with independent bookshops and weekend markets.
