Home Exchange in Salvador
No verified homes listed in Salvador yet — the first hosts get priority placement.
Salvador wakes to the sound of drums echoing off colonial walls painted in shades of ochre and cobalt. This is Brazil's first capital, where African diaspora culture runs deepest—in the acarajé frying at street corners, the Candomblé rhythms spilling from doorways, the capoeira circles forming at sunset on Pelourinho's cobblestones. To stay here like a local means breakfast on a tiled veranda overlooking the Bay of All Saints, evenings timed to the neighbourhood's own pulse rather than a hotel concierge's recommendations. The homes below open the door to that rhythm.

Frequently asked questions
How does home exchange on SwappaHome work?
You list your home, earn 1 credit for every night you host a guest, and spend those credits to stay at any other home in the network — always 1 credit per night. No money changes hands between members. New accounts start with 10 free credits, so you can book your first trip before you've hosted anyone.
Is it safe to swap homes with strangers?
Every member goes through identity verification before they can list or book. All conversations happen inside the SwappaHome platform — you never have to share your personal email or phone number to coordinate a swap. After each stay, guests and hosts leave mutual reviews — reputation is the foundation of the whole community, and members with low ratings lose access. For extra peace of mind, we recommend confirming house rules in writing before arrival.
Do I need to swap directly with the same person?
No. SwappaHome uses a credit system, not direct 1-to-1 swaps. You can host a family from Berlin and use the credits you earn to stay with a completely different host in Tokyo six months later. It makes travel dates, destinations and group sizes much easier to match.
Can I join if I don't own a home?
Yes — you can earn credits by hosting in a spare room, a long-term rental (if your lease allows guests) or by gifting/receiving credits from other members. You can also buy a starter pack if you want to travel before you host. Listing your primary home is the most common path, but it's not the only one.
Which neighbourhoods capture Salvador's soul?
Pelourinho is the historic heart—UNESCO-listed colonial lanes where culture and history press close. But locals also gravitate to Barra for its lighthouse and beach-facing bars, Rio Vermelho for nightlife and bohemian energy, and the quieter coastal stretch of Itapuã, where poets and musicians have long found refuge. Each bairro carries its own cadence, shaped by proximity to the sea, the density of colonial architecture, and the particular blend of sacred and secular life that defines the city.
