Home Exchange in Salvador

No verified homes listed in Salvador yet — the first hosts get priority placement.

Salvador spills down steep hills to meet the Atlantic, its cobbled streets echoing with drum circles and the scent of dendê oil sizzling in street-side acarajé stands. The Pelourinho's pastel colonial facades hide courtyards where capoeira circles form at dusk, and the lower city hums with markets selling everything from fresh coconut water to handmade berimbaus. This is Brazil's Afro-Brazilian heart, where Candomblé temples share neighbourhoods with baroque churches, and the rhythm of the city shifts with the tides—slow and contemplative in the morning heat, electric as the sun sets over the bay.

Frequently asked questions

How does home exchange on SwappaHome work?

You list your home, earn 1 credit for every night you host a guest, and spend those credits to stay at any other home in the network — always 1 credit per night. No money changes hands between members. New accounts start with 10 free credits, so you can book your first trip before you've hosted anyone.

Is it safe to swap homes with strangers?

Every member goes through identity verification before they can list or book. All messages run through our encrypted chat. After each stay, guests and hosts leave mutual reviews — reputation is the foundation of the whole community, and members with low ratings lose access. For extra peace of mind, we recommend confirming house rules in writing before arrival.

Do I need to swap directly with the same person?

No. SwappaHome uses a credit system, not direct 1-to-1 swaps. You can host a family from Berlin and use the credits you earn to stay with a completely different host in Tokyo six months later. It makes travel dates, destinations and group sizes much easier to match.

Can I join if I don't own a home?

Yes — you can earn credits by hosting in a spare room, a long-term rental (if your lease allows guests) or by gifting/receiving credits from other members. You can also buy a starter pack if you want to travel before you host. Listing your primary home is the most common path, but it's not the only one.

What's the rhythm of Salvador's neighbourhoods?

Pelourinho is the historic soul—steep, cobbled, alive with music and colonial architecture. Barra draws beachgoers and sunset-watchers to its lighthouse point, while Rio Vermelho pulses with boteco culture and nightlife. The lower city, Cidade Baixa, is where ferries depart and the Mercado Modelo sprawls with crafts. Itapuã, further along the coast, feels more residential and laid-back, with long stretches of sand and the lagoon Abaeté nearby. Each neighbourhood keeps its own tempo, shaped by proximity to water, history, and the drum.
