Home Exchange in Halifax
No verified homes listed in Halifax yet — the first hosts get priority placement.
Halifax clings to the edge of the Atlantic with a salty, weather-beaten grace. Fog rolls in over the harbour most mornings, softening the Victorian facades along the waterfront and the sprawl of colourful row houses climbing the hill toward the Citadel. This is a city shaped by the sea—lobster rolls and fish and chips appear on nearly every corner, and the smell of brine mixes with coffee roasting in the North End. Summer brings long, cool evenings perfect for harbour walks; autumn turns the surrounding Nova Scotia countryside into a blaze of red and gold.

Frequently asked questions
How does home exchange on SwappaHome work?
You list your home, earn 1 credit for every night you host a guest, and spend those credits to stay at any other home in the network — always 1 credit per night. No money changes hands between members. New accounts start with 10 free credits, so you can book your first trip before you've hosted anyone.
Is it safe to swap homes with strangers?
Every member goes through identity verification before they can list or book. All messages run through our encrypted chat. After each stay, guests and hosts leave mutual reviews — reputation is the foundation of the whole community, and members with low ratings lose access. For extra peace of mind, we recommend confirming house rules in writing before arrival.
Do I need to swap directly with the same person?
No. SwappaHome uses a credit system, not direct 1-to-1 swaps. You can host a family from Berlin and use the credits you earn to stay with a completely different host in Tokyo six months later. It makes travel dates, destinations and group sizes much easier to match.
Can I join if I don't own a home?
Yes — you can earn credits by hosting in a spare room, a long-term rental (if your lease allows guests) or by gifting/receiving credits from other members. You can also buy a starter pack if you want to travel before you host. Listing your primary home is the most common path, but it's not the only one.
What's the rhythm of life like in Halifax?
Halifax moves at a maritime pace—unhurried but never sleepy. The downtown peninsula is walkable, with most neighbourhoods connected by tree-lined streets that slope toward the water. Locals favour the North End for its cafés and vintage shops, while the South End feels more residential and leafy. Winters are milder than the rest of Canada but damp and grey; summer and early fall are when the city truly opens up, with patios full and ferries shuttling across the harbour to Dartmouth.
