Home Exchange in Vik

No verified homes listed in Vik yet — the first hosts get priority placement.

Vík sits at the southernmost tip of Iceland's mainland, a village of black-sand beaches and basalt sea stacks where the Atlantic crashes against volcanic cliffs. Reynisfjara's dark shore stretches west, framed by hexagonal columns and folklore about trolls turned to stone at sunrise. Mist rolls in without warning, and the wind carries salt. Sheep graze the green slopes above town, and the red-roofed church on the hill becomes a landmark when fog swallows everything else. Summer brings midnight sun and puffins nesting on nearby cliffs; winter can mean northern lights dancing over the waves.

Frequently asked questions

How does home exchange on SwappaHome work?

You list your home, earn 1 credit for every night you host a guest, and spend those credits to stay at any other home in the network — always 1 credit per night. No money changes hands between members. New accounts start with 10 free credits, so you can book your first trip before you've hosted anyone.

Is it safe to swap homes with strangers?

Every member goes through identity verification before they can list or book. All messages run through our encrypted chat. After each stay, guests and hosts leave mutual reviews — reputation is the foundation of the whole community, and members with low ratings lose access. For extra peace of mind, we recommend confirming house rules in writing before arrival.

Do I need to swap directly with the same person?

No. SwappaHome uses a credit system, not direct 1-to-1 swaps. You can host a family from Berlin and use the credits you earn to stay with a completely different host in Tokyo six months later. It makes travel dates, destinations and group sizes much easier to match.

Can I join if I don't own a home?

Yes — you can earn credits by hosting in a spare room, a long-term rental (if your lease allows guests) or by gifting/receiving credits from other members. You can also buy a starter pack if you want to travel before you host. Listing your primary home is the most common path, but it's not the only one.

What's the weather like in Vík, and when should I visit?

Vík is one of Iceland's wettest villages, so pack waterproofs year-round. Summer (June to August) offers the mildest temperatures and long daylight for hiking and birdwatching, though it's also the busiest season. Spring and autumn bring dramatic light and fewer crowds, ideal for photographers. Winter can be stormy and dark, but it's prime time for northern lights if skies clear. Roads stay open, though conditions change fast—always check forecasts before heading to the coast or nearby glaciers.
