Home Exchange in Rishikesh
No verified homes listed in Rishikesh yet — the first hosts get priority placement.
Rishikesh clings to the Ganges where the river tumbles out of the Himalayas, still cold and fast. Mornings begin with temple bells echoing across suspension bridges, evenings with aarti ceremonies that send tiny oil lamps spinning downstream. The town splits into distinct pockets: Laxman Jhula's backpacker cafés serving banana pancakes and chai, Tapovan's quieter ashrams, the older bazaars near Ram Jhula fragrant with incense and marigolds. Between yoga sessions and white-water eddies, there's always time for aloo puri at a riverside shack, watching sadhus in saffron robes and trekkers shouldering packs toward the same trailheads.

Frequently asked questions
How does home exchange on SwappaHome work?
You list your home, earn 1 credit for every night you host a guest, and spend those credits to stay at any other home in the network — always 1 credit per night. No money changes hands between members. New accounts start with 10 free credits, so you can book your first trip before you've hosted anyone.
Is it safe to swap homes with strangers?
Every member goes through identity verification before they can list or book. All messages run through our encrypted chat. After each stay, guests and hosts leave mutual reviews — reputation is the foundation of the whole community, and members with low ratings lose access. For extra peace of mind, we recommend confirming house rules in writing before arrival.
Do I need to swap directly with the same person?
No. SwappaHome uses a credit system, not direct 1-to-1 swaps. You can host a family from Berlin and use the credits you earn to stay with a completely different host in Tokyo six months later. It makes travel dates, destinations and group sizes much easier to match.
Can I join if I don't own a home?
Yes — you can earn credits by hosting in a spare room, a long-term rental (if your lease allows guests) or by gifting/receiving credits from other members. You can also buy a starter pack if you want to travel before you host. Listing your primary home is the most common path, but it's not the only one.
When's the best time to visit Rishikesh?
September through early November brings clear skies and the Ganges at its most luminous, perfect for rafting and trekking into the foothills. February to April is also lovely—warm days, cool nights, and the hills still dusted with snow. Monsoon months turn the river wild and trails slippery, though the town takes on a lush, contemplative quiet. Avoid late May and June when the heat climbs and the pilgrimage crowds swell before the rains arrive.
