Home Exchange in Bali

No verified homes listed in Bali yet — the first hosts get priority placement.

The smell of frangipani and incense drifts through open-air pavilions at dawn, when the gamelan practice starts in the banjar and motorbikes begin their morning hum. Bali rewards the traveller who stays long enough to notice the rhythm beneath the postcard: the daily canang sari offerings on doorsteps, the way rice terraces shift from emerald to gold depending on the harvest cycle, the difference between Seminyak's surf-and-sunset crowd and the stone-carver villages inland around Ubud. The homes below open the door to that rhythm—where you wake to roosters instead of room service, and the kitchen comes with a local warung just down the lane.

Frequently asked questions

How does home exchange on SwappaHome work?

You list your home, earn 1 credit for every night you host a guest, and spend those credits to stay at any other home in the network — always 1 credit per night. No money changes hands between members. New accounts start with 10 free credits, so you can book your first trip before you've hosted anyone.

Is it safe to swap homes with strangers?

Every member goes through identity verification before they can list or book. All conversations happen inside the SwappaHome platform — you never have to share your personal email or phone number to coordinate a swap. After each stay, guests and hosts leave mutual reviews — reputation is the foundation of the whole community, and members with low ratings lose access. For extra peace of mind, we recommend confirming house rules in writing before arrival.

Do I need to swap directly with the same person?

No. SwappaHome uses a credit system, not direct 1-to-1 swaps. You can host a family from Berlin and use the credits you earn to stay with a completely different host in Tokyo six months later. It makes travel dates, destinations and group sizes much easier to match.

Can I join if I don't own a home?

Yes — you can earn credits by hosting in a spare room, a long-term rental (if your lease allows guests) or by gifting/receiving credits from other members. You can also buy a starter pack if you want to travel before you host. Listing your primary home is the most common path, but it's not the only one.

Which part of Bali feels most like everyday island life?

Head to Sanur for a quieter beachfront pace, or the villages around Ubud—Penestanan, Petulu, Mas—where you'll find family compounds, rice paddies within walking distance, and a slower cadence than the southern beach clubs. Canggu and Seminyak skew younger and more transient; the central and eastern regencies (Gianyar, Karangasem) offer temple towns, traditional markets, and a landscape shaped more by agriculture than tourism. Dry season (April–October) brings the most reliable weather, though the island's microclimates mean the inland highlands stay green and cool year-round.
