Home Exchange in Genoa

No verified homes listed in Genoa yet — the first hosts get priority placement.

Genoa smells like focaccia at 7am and salt air by 9. This is Italy's largest working port, a city that earned its wealth from the sea and never apologized for the grit that came with it. The caruggi—narrow stone alleys older than Columbus—spill down toward the harbour in a tangle of laundry lines, fry shops, and Renaissance palazzi with peeling frescoes. Staying here means morning espresso where dock workers drink theirs, afternoon walks along Via Garibaldi's marble colonnades, evenings when the Ligurian hills glow pink above the cranes. The homes below open the door to that rhythm.

Frequently asked questions

How does home exchange on SwappaHome work?

You list your home, earn 1 credit for every night you host a guest, and spend those credits to stay at any other home in the network — always 1 credit per night. No money changes hands between members. New accounts start with 10 free credits, so you can book your first trip before you've hosted anyone.

Is it safe to swap homes with strangers?

Every member goes through identity verification before they can list or book. All conversations happen inside the SwappaHome platform — you never have to share your personal email or phone number to coordinate a swap. After each stay, guests and hosts leave mutual reviews — reputation is the foundation of the whole community, and members with low ratings lose access. For extra peace of mind, we recommend confirming house rules in writing before arrival.

Do I need to swap directly with the same person?

No. SwappaHome uses a credit system, not direct 1-to-1 swaps. You can host a family from Berlin and use the credits you earn to stay with a completely different host in Tokyo six months later. It makes travel dates, destinations and group sizes much easier to match.

Can I join if I don't own a home?

Yes — you can earn credits by hosting in a spare room, a long-term rental (if your lease allows guests) or by gifting/receiving credits from other members. You can also buy a starter pack if you want to travel before you host. Listing your primary home is the most common path, but it's not the only one.

Which neighbourhoods in Genoa feel most authentic?

The centro storico—Europe's largest medieval quarter—is where Genoa's soul lives, all vertical alleys and sudden piazzas. Boccadasse, a pastel fishing village folded into the eastern edge of the city, offers pebble beaches and seafood trattorias. For calmer residential life with views, the hillside districts of Castelletto and Albaro climb above the port. Spring and early autumn bring the best light and walkable temperatures; summer can be humid, winter mild but quiet.
