Home Exchange in Hiroshima
No verified homes listed in Hiroshima yet — the first hosts get priority placement.
Hiroshima sits where rivers meet the Seto Inland Sea, a city rebuilt with quiet intention. Mornings smell of okonomiyaki sizzling on griddles, layered thick with cabbage and noodles, finished with a sweet-savoury glaze. The Peace Memorial Park draws contemplation, but step beyond and you'll find shotengai arcades humming with locals, izakayas tucked under railway arches, and the floating torii of Miyajima a short ferry ride away. Seasons here are pronounced: cherry blossoms in spring, sticky summers cooled by shaved ice, fiery autumn maples, oysters pulled fresh from winter waters.

Frequently asked questions
How does home exchange on SwappaHome work?
You list your home, earn 1 credit for every night you host a guest, and spend those credits to stay at any other home in the network — always 1 credit per night. No money changes hands between members. New accounts start with 10 free credits, so you can book your first trip before you've hosted anyone.
Is it safe to swap homes with strangers?
Every member goes through identity verification before they can list or book. All messages run through our encrypted chat. After each stay, guests and hosts leave mutual reviews — reputation is the foundation of the whole community, and members with low ratings lose access. For extra peace of mind, we recommend confirming house rules in writing before arrival.
Do I need to swap directly with the same person?
No. SwappaHome uses a credit system, not direct 1-to-1 swaps. You can host a family from Berlin and use the credits you earn to stay with a completely different host in Tokyo six months later. It makes travel dates, destinations and group sizes much easier to match.
Can I join if I don't own a home?
Yes — you can earn credits by hosting in a spare room, a long-term rental (if your lease allows guests) or by gifting/receiving credits from other members. You can also buy a starter pack if you want to travel before you host. Listing your primary home is the most common path, but it's not the only one.
What's the best way to experience Hiroshima beyond the memorial sites?
Wander the Hondori shopping arcade for street food and small shops, then take the tram—Hiroshima's streetcars are part of daily life and reach most neighbourhoods. Cross to Miyajima island for hiking and temples, or head to the Mazda Museum in nearby Fuchu if you're curious about local industry. Evenings, seek out okonomiyaki-ya in Nagarekawa or Hatchobori where chefs work the griddle right in front of you. The river delta makes cycling easy and pleasant, especially along the waterfront paths.
