Home Exchange in Okinawa
No verified homes listed in Okinawa yet — the first hosts get priority placement.
Okinawa moves to a different clock than mainland Japan. Here, the subtropical air hangs thick with salt and frangipani, and lunch might stretch into the afternoon over goya champuru and Orion beer. The islands scatter across turquoise water like jade beads—some with mangrove kayaking and coral reefs, others with castle ruins and century-old pottery kilns. Locals speak in a melodic dialect, practice karate in open-air dojos, and live by the principle of *yuimaru*—mutual help. Stay long enough and you'll understand why Okinawans call their home *Uchinaa*, a place apart.

Frequently asked questions
How does home exchange on SwappaHome work?
You list your home, earn 1 credit for every night you host a guest, and spend those credits to stay at any other home in the network — always 1 credit per night. No money changes hands between members. New accounts start with 10 free credits, so you can book your first trip before you've hosted anyone.
Is it safe to swap homes with strangers?
Every member goes through identity verification before they can list or book. All messages run through our encrypted chat. After each stay, guests and hosts leave mutual reviews — reputation is the foundation of the whole community, and members with low ratings lose access. For extra peace of mind, we recommend confirming house rules in writing before arrival.
Do I need to swap directly with the same person?
No. SwappaHome uses a credit system, not direct 1-to-1 swaps. You can host a family from Berlin and use the credits you earn to stay with a completely different host in Tokyo six months later. It makes travel dates, destinations and group sizes much easier to match.
Can I join if I don't own a home?
Yes — you can earn credits by hosting in a spare room, a long-term rental (if your lease allows guests) or by gifting/receiving credits from other members. You can also buy a starter pack if you want to travel before you host. Listing your primary home is the most common path, but it's not the only one.
When's the best time to visit Okinawa?
April through June brings warm days and calm seas before the rainy season, ideal for snorkelling and beach time. September and October offer post-typhoon clarity and fewer crowds, with water still warm enough to swim. Winter is mild—think light sweaters rather than coats—and perfect for hiking the northern Yanbaru forests or exploring Shuri Castle without the humidity. Avoid July and August unless you love heat and tourist season energy.
