Home Exchange in Vigan

No verified homes listed in Vigan yet — the first hosts get priority placement.

Vigan feels like stepping through a sepia photograph into Spanish colonial Asia. Cobblestone streets echo with the clip-clop of kalesas, while ancestral houses with capiz shell windows glow amber at dusk. The Mestizo District unfolds in terracotta and whitewash, each corner revealing wooden shutters, clay-tiled roofs, and courtyards where bougainvillea spills over iron gates. Mornings smell of empanada from street vendors, evenings hum with the Ilocos wind. This UNESCO-listed town on Luzon's west coast moves at the pace of horse-drawn carriages, a rare pocket where centuries overlap and the everyday still feels storied.

Frequently asked questions

How does home exchange on SwappaHome work?

You list your home, earn 1 credit for every night you host a guest, and spend those credits to stay at any other home in the network — always 1 credit per night. No money changes hands between members. New accounts start with 10 free credits, so you can book your first trip before you've hosted anyone.

Is it safe to swap homes with strangers?

Every member goes through identity verification before they can list or book. All messages run through our encrypted chat. After each stay, guests and hosts leave mutual reviews — reputation is the foundation of the whole community, and members with low ratings lose access. For extra peace of mind, we recommend confirming house rules in writing before arrival.

Do I need to swap directly with the same person?

No. SwappaHome uses a credit system, not direct 1-to-1 swaps. You can host a family from Berlin and use the credits you earn to stay with a completely different host in Tokyo six months later. It makes travel dates, destinations and group sizes much easier to match.

Can I join if I don't own a home?

Yes — you can earn credits by hosting in a spare room, a long-term rental (if your lease allows guests) or by gifting/receiving credits from other members. You can also buy a starter pack if you want to travel before you host. Listing your primary home is the most common path, but it's not the only one.

What's the best way to experience Vigan's historic core?

Walk or take a kalesa through Calle Crisologo at dawn or after sunset, when the light softens and the crowds thin. The Mestizo District rewards slow wandering—peek into open doorways, visit pottery workshops in Pagburnayan, and try Ilocano specialties like bagnet and empanada. Vigan is compact enough to explore on foot, though the cobblestones can be uneven. The cooler months from November to February offer the most comfortable weather for strolling these centuries-old streets.
