Home Exchange in Zakopane

No verified homes listed in Zakopane yet — the first hosts get priority placement.

Zakopane sits at the foot of the Tatras, where wooden chalets climb steep streets and the air smells of smoked sheep's cheese. In winter, skiers carve runs above the town while horse-drawn sleighs clatter along Krupówki, the pedestrian spine lined with highlander craft stalls and mulled wine vendors. Summer brings hikers to ridgeline trails and mountain lakes, then back down for oscypek grilled over open flame. The Góral culture runs deep here—listen for the fiddles in a karczma cellar, or catch the geometric patterns carved into every gable and gate.

Frequently asked questions

How does home exchange on SwappaHome work?

You list your home, earn 1 credit for every night you host a guest, and spend those credits to stay at any other home in the network — always 1 credit per night. No money changes hands between members. New accounts start with 10 free credits, so you can book your first trip before you've hosted anyone.

Is it safe to swap homes with strangers?

Every member goes through identity verification before they can list or book. All messages run through our encrypted chat. After each stay, guests and hosts leave mutual reviews — reputation is the foundation of the whole community, and members with low ratings lose access. For extra peace of mind, we recommend confirming house rules in writing before arrival.

Do I need to swap directly with the same person?

No. SwappaHome uses a credit system, not direct 1-to-1 swaps. You can host a family from Berlin and use the credits you earn to stay with a completely different host in Tokyo six months later. It makes travel dates, destinations and group sizes much easier to match.

Can I join if I don't own a home?

Yes — you can earn credits by hosting in a spare room, a long-term rental (if your lease allows guests) or by gifting/receiving credits from other members. You can also buy a starter pack if you want to travel before you host. Listing your primary home is the most common path, but it's not the only one.

When's the best time to visit Zakopane?

Winter transforms Zakopane into Poland's alpine heart, with reliable snow from December through March and the peaks glowing pink at sunset. Summer and early autumn offer wildflower meadows, clear hiking weather, and fewer crowds—though thunderstorms can roll in by afternoon. Shoulder seasons bring mist and mud, but also quiet trails and lower prices. If you're here for skiing or the festive buzz, aim for January or February; for high-altitude walks and swimming in Morskie Oko's icy water, come June through September.
