Home Exchange in Zakopane

No verified homes listed in Zakopane yet — the first hosts get priority placement.

The creak of wooden shutters in the morning, the smell of oscypek cheese smoking over beechwood, the sight of the Tatras cutting a jagged line against the sky — Zakopane announces itself through the senses before you even step into town. This is Poland's mountain capital, where góral culture runs deep and the rhythms shift with the seasons: summer brings hikers threading through valleys toward Morskie Oko, winter turns Krupówki into a parade of sheepskin vests and mulled wine. Staying in a local home here means waking to those peaks from a wooden balcony, not a hotel lobby. The homes below open the door to that rhythm.

Frequently asked questions

How does home exchange on SwappaHome work?

You list your home, earn 1 credit for every night you host a guest, and spend those credits to stay at any other home in the network — always 1 credit per night. No money changes hands between members. New accounts start with 10 free credits, so you can book your first trip before you've hosted anyone.

Is it safe to swap homes with strangers?

Every member goes through identity verification before they can list or book. All conversations happen inside the SwappaHome platform — you never have to share your personal email or phone number to coordinate a swap. After each stay, guests and hosts leave mutual reviews — reputation is the foundation of the whole community, and members with low ratings lose access. For extra peace of mind, we recommend confirming house rules in writing before arrival.

Do I need to swap directly with the same person?

No. SwappaHome uses a credit system, not direct 1-to-1 swaps. You can host a family from Berlin and use the credits you earn to stay with a completely different host in Tokyo six months later. It makes travel dates, destinations and group sizes much easier to match.

Can I join if I don't own a home?

Yes — you can earn credits by hosting in a spare room, a long-term rental (if your lease allows guests) or by gifting/receiving credits from other members. You can also buy a starter pack if you want to travel before you host. Listing your primary home is the most common path, but it's not the only one.

What's the difference between summer and winter Zakopane?

Summer belongs to hikers and families — trails through the Tatras are lush, cable cars run to Kasprowy Wierch, and the town feels quieter, almost pastoral. Winter transforms Zakopane into Poland's busiest ski hub: slopes fill with boarders, Krupówki thrums with après-ski energy, and the air smells of grilled kielbasa and smoke. Both seasons reward staying in a wooden highland home, but winter demands booking early and embracing the crowds. Spring and autumn are the secret seasons — fewer visitors, moody mountain light, and góral culture at its most authentic.
