Home Exchange in Chiang Mai

No verified homes listed in Chiang Mai yet — the first hosts get priority placement.

Chiang Mai hums with a different rhythm than the rest of Thailand. Mornings begin with the soft clang of alms bowls as monks walk temple-lined lanes, while evenings smell of grilled sai oua and sweet mango sticky rice from the night markets. The old city sits within ancient moat walls, its narrow sois opening onto gilded wats and shophouse cafés. Beyond, the foothills of Doi Suthep rise green and cool, dotted with hill tribe villages and forest trails. This is a city that moves slowly, where digital nomads and artisans have settled into wooden guesthouses, and where every neighbourhood—from the creative chaos of Nimmanhaemin to the quiet charm of Wat Ket—offers its own flavour of northern Thai life.

Frequently asked questions

How does home exchange on SwappaHome work?

You list your home, earn 1 credit for every night you host a guest, and spend those credits to stay at any other home in the network — always 1 credit per night. No money changes hands between members. New accounts start with 10 free credits, so you can book your first trip before you've hosted anyone.

Is it safe to swap homes with strangers?

Every member goes through identity verification before they can list or book. All messages run through our encrypted chat. After each stay, guests and hosts leave mutual reviews — reputation is the foundation of the whole community, and members with low ratings lose access. For extra peace of mind, we recommend confirming house rules in writing before arrival.

Do I need to swap directly with the same person?

No. SwappaHome uses a credit system, not direct 1-to-1 swaps. You can host a family from Berlin and use the credits you earn to stay with a completely different host in Tokyo six months later. It makes travel dates, destinations and group sizes much easier to match.

Can I join if I don't own a home?

Yes — you can earn credits by hosting in a spare room, a long-term rental (if your lease allows guests) or by gifting/receiving credits from other members. You can also buy a starter pack if you want to travel before you host. Listing your primary home is the most common path, but it's not the only one.

When's the best time to visit Chiang Mai?

The cool season from November through February brings crisp mornings and blue skies—perfect for temple hopping and mountain treks. March to May turns hot and hazy with agricultural burning, though it's also mango season and quieter with tourists. The green season from June to October sees afternoon rains that clear quickly, leaving everything lush and the air clean. November's Yi Peng lantern festival paints the sky with thousands of floating lights, while Songkran in April turns the city into a joyful water fight. Each season shapes the city differently.
